The Fantastic Four: First Steps - Official Teaser Trailer (2025)

I just watched the trailer, and it doesn't look too good IMO. I probably won't go to the theater to see it. Ben's voice doesn't fit what I'd expect him to sound like and I don't ever remember Reed Richards rocking just a 70's porn stache. I don't think Pedro Pascal was the right casting choice. I've never seen the Roger Corman FF movie, but the last 3 weren't good either. I'm a FF fan but I've come to the conclusion that we may never get a good standalone film and they're better as a supporting role which they'll probably play in Secret Wars.
The Coreman version, while craptastic in his usual way, was arguably the most comics accurate.

It’s not actually the 60s though, is it? It’s a parallel world that just happens to look a bit like that. So it doesn’t matter if it’s not “authentic”.

Not that I care, I’ve never liked the Fantastic Four.
If it's not actually the 1960s, sure, like it's 1982 or 2014 or whenever in an entirely alternate world, sure. If it's 1964 or something in an alternate world though then its just a miss.

Particularly as they wouldn't do the same thing with the 1980s, say.

Love that story. The Burning Chrome collection is an old favorite.
It's a really good collection - I still remember reading it in the library at school!

Regarding the appearance of the 19603-esque world I recommend that folks read the short story "The Gernsback Continuum", by William Gibson, or look into who Hugo Gernsback was.
I'll believe it's this if they put a chyron on screen or have dialogue saying its "1983 AD" or "2234 CE" or something. Otherwise this is headcanon to excuse incompetence. Something nerds are staggeringly good at coming up with, I admit.

Looking up who Gernsback was won't help you though, not sure why you suggest that - only knowing the short story supports your contention.

from the actual synopsis "Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, "

Kevin Feige recently confirmed that the movie will take place in an alternate universe,

Ok, but I await the actual movie or at least some specifics to confirm that that's not merely talk.

I do appreciate the quote though.
