It might be, in no small part, because they are a definite product of their time. Essentially a '60s Nuclear Family, with all that implies. Reproducing them accurately somehow doesn't really feel right and not doing it accurately, leads to a dissonance of its own.

I agree. Ben should have an accent that is close to a Brooklyn accent. As for Pedro Pascal, I know several big fans of his whom have stated that he is miscast.

I clipped this from the trailer. There are at least two buildings in the foreground with disks atop them, and one (highlighted) in the background. There is also the building in the foreground with two silvery disks made up of triangles that appears unusual.

Because it's cheesy, that family dynamic does not exist any more, if it ever did, and the big guy in a purple suit is ridiculous.

They conspicuously left out the big purple guy, and the kids were actually kids, rather than adults who acted like kids. Oh, and they weren't ridiculously wealthy.
