I loved Thunderbolts, to a degree that I haven't enjoyed an MCU movie in several years now. On top of that, it's arguably the first MCU movie that's overtly about something, with focused, layered metaphors from start to finish.

Thor: Ragnarok? I mean, the core plot is a remnant of the past showing up to take over the seemingly good kingdom, and in the process revealing its sordid history and that the reason it's so rich in comparison to its counterparts is that they used to run around kicking everybody's butt and taking their stuff. Nah, there aren't any real-world parallels there. None.

I mean, yes, there's "I know him from work!", but there's also the other thing.

As much as I have enjoyed a lot of the more recent MCU offerings (including Thunderbolts), Thor: Ragnarok is still peak MCU for me. That’s probably the one I’ve watched the most.

It might be peak Taika Waititi as well, although Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows are right up there too.

I read yesterday there's talk of Taika directing a new Judge Dredd film, which I think could work.

As someone who enjoyed the groundedness of the Karl Urban version, I'm rather dreading this, as I suspect Taika will lean into the whacky side (and I would be very surprised if the antagonist is not Judge Death).

I was a fan of that version too, would have loved to see them get a sequel and do the Judge Death storyline.

I liked the whacky storylines in 2000 AD more than Judge Dredd specifically, so probably why I can see Taika working. I can understand being worried if you want a more grounded Dredd again.

When I hear the names "Taika Waititi" and "Judge Dredd" int he same sentence, that's also where my head goes. Not necessarily in a good way. "Thor: Ragnarok" is what you get when he's kept on mission. "Thor: Love and Thunder" is what you get when he's let off his lead.
