Sometimes when having a conversation with someone on these forums, I have to remind myself that the "fan" is just short for "fanatic". Too many people tie their identities to the settings/games they like and whether or not other people like them.

Well, the sad truth is that as psychologists have demonstrated, what people remember happening only has a passing relationship with what did. That applies equally to you and the people telling you otherwise, of course.

Indeed, and even getting both sides may not be enough to make a valid judgement. "Understanding is a three-edged sword" as the saying goes.
