Bummer. I hope you feel better soon, Snarf.

Am I the only one who hasn't had Covid-19 yet?

We're not 100% sure. We had something in late 2019 that seemed--abnormal--in its duration and some other traits, but it was awfully early. After a description a couple years ago our doctor seemed convinced it was COVID, however.

I wonder if there's been a lot of research on parasocial relationships. They really baffle me, but the past few years have shown me that the way I think doesn't mean anything about how anyone else does.

It probably doesn't help that there's no clear line of demarcation between people you have genuine, albeit distant relationships with in the modern period, and the parasocial ones, just a slow sliding scale where at one end you're just a follower but there are a lot of interim steps. That's the problem social relationships in general, and digital ones just compound it.

Remember when we thought the worst thing a software company could do was bundle an internet browser into their OS? I sure am glad we nipped that problem in the bud so no one would ever bundle up software like that again. It was a very important legal precedent.

If ever there was a time for this gif.

My wife and I managed to avoid COVID until late August of 2023. Pretty sure it came home from daycare with the little one who also had it but was asymptomatic. We were among the last people we knew to get it and know many people who have had it multiple times. Despite being vaccinated it hit me really hard and the side effects of Paxlovid were even worse (I have to believe it made the recovery quicker or else I start to get mad about it).
