The problem is that a fair number of people think preferences not based on logic are nonsensical; whether theirs actually is or not is irrelevant to them seeing it in that terms because they won't allow themselves to have ones they don't see that way.

If someone likes D&D, I'm fine with that, I support them 100%. Though if they are complaining about D&D, then the answer seems obvious, play something else.
The answer could also be "here's how D&D could improve." I've noticed that most folks who complain about D&D are looking for ways to make the experience better... they aren't interested in, or even looking for, a completely different game (unless it's to strip it for parts, in my case.)

Which is fine, though it feels like it should go in the D&D section. It is when the OP posts something innocuous and then a hundred pages erupt arguing about D&D in the TTRPGs General section ...

I understand the frustration, for sure. Maybe it would be useful to have a [NOT D&D] subforum in TTRPG General, precisely for people who are interested in non -D&D games and want to stay on topic.

I get it, but it's tough. It's about the only universally known game around. It's the easiest game to compare and contrast to as just about everyone's played it.

Yeah, but when the problem is baked into core assumptions in D&D, you either decide to shrug, or move into something else that doesn't have those core assumptions. Trying to do otherwise is trying to extract your pound of flesh without spilling a drop of blood.

I think it's hard when you like the feel or comfort of something in general, but don't like some aspects of it. But those aspects are woven into the core of it.

In a realm outside of RPGs, for example, is there a pork or poultry dish that capture beef brisket, or corned beef, or Italian beef if you really like those but want to dodge them being beef?
