Shapechanger. The mimic can use its action to polymorph into a forum thread or back into its true, amorphous form. Its statistics are the same in each form. It reverts to its true form if it dies.

Entangling (Thread Form Only). The mimic entangles anyone who engages it. A Huge or smaller creature entangled with the mimic is also restrained by it (escape DC 15). Ability checks made to escape this grapple (only Intelligence-, Wisdom-, or Charisma-based checks permitted) have disadvantage.

False Appearance (Thread Form Only). While the mimic remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary forum thread.
