We have a collection of funny phone responses from my octogenarian mother, who is really bad with technology. The best to me was when I texted her "I'll be there soon." and she responded "You better be," because that was one of the options on her apple watch. The best of all time was when my nephew broke his arm and she responded "lol" because she thought it meant "lots of love."

It did. The acronym was used with that meaning in correspondence long before text messaging was invented.

I do remember when I worked as a technical writer, an intern who was trying to get hired pulled her writing sample off the printer and handed it directly to the senior technical writer. He pointed that out as a bad sign. But, it's true, seems nobody checks anything any more: not prose, not code, not game design....
