The Inevitable New Buffy Episode Thread (Spoilers after Sept 24)

Maybe he wont get eaten but he looked alot like Mr Trick in non vampy form.

And yes, he is hip but just why exactly is his office over the hellmouth?

Hrm ...

I'll repeat myself...

The new principle's office is over the Hellmouth. In the previous school, who's office was over the Hellmouth? Giles'. Previously, the space over the Hellmouth was occumied by a Watcher, someone trying to keep the Hellmouth closed...

Mayhaps the parallel means something, hmm?

I agree that Mr. Wood is a Watcher.

1. Office over hellmounth ---> Giles too...also with the "back to the beginning" theme.

2. The name. Names mean something.
Willow ---> eventually a spellcaster
Jenny Calendar ---> her days were numbered
Spike---> originally intended to be staked after a few episodes
Dawn --->Sunlight kills vampires, thus Dawn will now become a warrior or slayer
Mr. Wood---> wooden stakes also kill vampires, and wooden crosses are harmful too.

3. He had supposedly read Buffy's file. Why? His justification was lame. And would not have her file burned with the building? Whose dossier was it then?

4. He hired Buffy for little reason, and created a redundantish job.

5. Another indication that the CoW might be actively organizing the school to fight evil is that Xander's upstart construction co got the huge contract. Someone apparently though that it would be wise to hire someone who knows about the Hellmouth, etc for the building, in addition to the utility of having another hunter onsite.

6. He cant die that fast regardless. They are not going to kill off the token good-looking young black guy for quite a while.

7. If he is CoW, I could see him having summoned the spirits to test Buffy, and/or to lead her to Spike.

scrappy gang-premptive yuch

I am not a Dawn fan, though I understand her importance, but I feel it is a bit of a step back to be returning to Sunnydale high, even if it is in a new incarnation.

We have seen them do highschool, is this attempt to return to a younger demographic? Of course the season is new and I will suspend judgement until further episodes.

The Talisman sort of bugged me, who put it there, and why have an exposition deus machina solution with no detective work, it seemed a cop out, and a situation that at it's heart was non engaging.

The episode also felt non inovative to me. One of the things that disapointed me a bit last season was,(Besides the fantastic musical) the lack of really inovative and intresting transition espisodes,(Hush for example), were life changing information is presented in spectacular form. I was hoping for the first episode to be a tour du force... oh well.

The title of the thread says spoilers....If you enter the thread and see something about the show you didn't want to know, that's your fault...People need to stop crying about spoilers..
.

Spoilers were expected about this episode, not about future developments in the season. We'd stopped discussing it until you dredged it up again. Both points have been made, so let's just agree to drop it and move on.

Um, there's nothing to suggest that the company Xander works for is "upstart". For all we know, they might well be the largest construction company in the area.

Wrong. Spike DOES know The Master. He traveled with Angelus and Darla (Who was sired by the Master remember?). He would have seen him.
It's possible, but it's never been shown on-screen. What *has* been shown was Angel and Darla breaking ties with the Master *long* before Angel vamped Drusilla, and given Angel's attitude it's unlikely that they'd gotten back to the Master while he was around. It's possible that Darla brought Spike and Dru to meet the Master after Angel got souled and left, but I doubt it.

The company Xander worked for was involved in building a new wing at Sunnydale U back in season 4. Anya commented on how hot he looked.

Oh, I got the impression that he started his own.I very well could be wrong, though. However, he seems to be very high up there, being a suit n all. Also, his contracty goodness comment regarding the floor made it seem like he had a more direct financial stake in the building than just a foreman.
