It was teased the previous week and lead to next week's episode and his helmet thing is recurring plot element.
If you didn't like it fair enough its probably the second weakest episode of the season but I wouldn't call it filler as it's advancing the plot ergo can't be filler.
Execution wasn't great though.

I disagree.That's fine but fillers usually used to describe episodes that don't really go anywhere so it's an odd label to stick on that episode imho.
