By your standard, there’s no such thing as filler, because obviously TV shows tenuously connect filler episodes with mild narrative tissue.

Next week they’ll invade the space ship that they were next to last week. They filled that gap with a fetch quest.

That's pretty much the shows formula at this point. Go here do/get something wash rinse repeat. That's almost every episode.

It is getting a bit stale, not quite played out yet but will be if they do another season of it IMHO.

Loved the episode, Mayfield being an operation Cinder survivor was cool. Everyone got to be a badass which was cool and Din makes his choice Grogu before the Creed.

Yeah they've been building up to that and even foreshadowed it earlier in the episode.

Grogu over the creed, and he's seen other Mando's and Boba not wear the mask.

Thought what they did with Mayfield was clever. Made him a lot more human and tied it back to earlier new canon with Operation Cinder.

As I said second weakest episode of the season but still fun imho..

Oh, did appreciating this ep require having watched the cartoons? I hope they don’t double down on that idea. I got the idea of the Jedi lady the other week just fine, but I don’t know about any operation Cinders or anything (not a request for info!)

Cinders video game.

They're doing same thing as MCU. You don't need to watch all of it but if you have you'll notice the easter eggs.

If I had to guess everything's very broadly is linked. They reference events from other media but it's not required to watch all of it.

I haven't seen all of the MCU but still followed the main plot easy enough.

It's just going to be a shared universe I suppose.

None of the episodes have required the watching or reading anything. They’ve inserted existing elements with skill that allows for the excitement and enjoyment of deep lore fans without detracting from the experience of new or Mandalorian only fans.

That one would require you to have played the Battlefront II videogame's single-player campaign - which definitely isn't worth it. I got about halfway through, and only because Battlefront II came bundled with my PS4.

Basically, Operation Cinder is the Emperor getting posthumous revenge on the galaxy by getting the Empire to burn planetary populations with orbital laser installations, for no strategically-sound reason.

And for what it's worth, yeah, this episode is filler. It invents a problem for the characters to overcome, which they do by the end of the episode, leaving them in the same position they were before the problem was invented.

Not so much Mandalorian is carrying it to extremes.

I'm enjoying it but hopefully they'll mix it up a bit next season. It's original but very formulaic. Baby Yoda and cameos this season have perhaps negated it a bit.

Shows not perfect, it's a lot of fun for now but yeah.
