The New Core Pantheon

I don't mind much about the "default" Pantheon, so long as we don't have the bloody Greyhawk gods. I loathe them. Sadly Obad-Hai, who sucks, has already been mentioned.

I suspect we may have a little bit of Deities and Demigods organization in here, and we'll have a small list for the Greek Pantheon, Norse Pantheon, and the "D&D" Pantheon (which will be Greyhawk gods), and so forth.

Corellon Larethian and Obad-hai are both mentioned in the elf flavor article, as has been mentioned, but I would presume that's not yet set in stone. They might just be placeholders.

But as of right now, yes, they're in. And, really, there aren't many historical deities that'd make perfect replacements. Frey and Cernunnos aren't really the same.

I will be satisfied with whatever they produce in the PHB, really. I intend to develop my own pantheon for my homebrew, just like every other DM out there. To that end, I would really like to see a page or two in the "World-Building" section of the DMG on creating pantheons.

I think that the core pantheon should consist of a table of parts of names. You roll for deity miscibility and get a god's name that covers the domains your cleric wants. Presto! Backfill your pantheon. ;) :D

Tables to generate random Chaotic gods would be cool. (^_^)

I never understood the whole attraction to a culturally (even faux culture) bereft, aimless, hodgepodge of dieties from wildly different societies that we are all at least peripherally familiar with.

Sometimes, the gods/goddesses aren't all that important to a group. So, each player (who wishes) just grabs a name from real world myth for his PC's patron, & the group gets on with the bits that they are interested in.
