The Old School: AD&D 1e

[sblock=Lidia]
The burrowing worm is a rot grub. If left alone, it will burrow into his heart over the course of the next few hours and kill him, followed by laying eggs which will consume the corpse.

The standard method of dispatching the rot grub involves casting a Cure Disease spell. However, there is a secondary method, which Amirad has just reminded you of. Applying fire to the wound immediately upon discovery of the rot grub will also kill it. It does also burn the victim, but it is still preferable to death.

Turthin watches with eyes paralyzed open as he is moved to a safe and clean-er location. He is watched over by the priest, who takes this time to read aloud but softly from a book of prayers

"Priest, I should not have mocked. It seems like the gods do indeed frown upon men who do not respect the cloth. Perhaps if you would forgive me, they might feel inclined to take away this curse." Sgt. Stubbs says with concern as he picks at the creature borrowing into his body.

"since I can't revive Turthian, let me see what i can do for you, sarge" he looks to the wounds of the Sargent and sees lydia. "Priestess of Nature, are these natural things? can we do anything? What do you see, anything?

Lidia looks at her torch to determine the best way to apply it to Sarge's wound. Finding a loose bit, she teases it off and lights it. "Sorry Sarge, this is going to hurt. But if we don't kill it now, it will kill you." Applying the burning brand to the grub, Lidia replies to Austin "Not nice but natural and usually fatal. That is unless you manage to kill it in time."

"if you know how to kill it, then lets get too it. Right Sarge?" Austin prepares by getting some wine and a strip of cloth to bind the wound.

Lidia sticks the brand into the wound. It sizzles and pain courses up Sgt. Stubbs' arm. But also, the worm desperately crawls out of the wound and drops to the floor, writhing and curling up to a crisp.

With that, the situation relaxes. The giant worm-thing is dead, Amirad carefully inspects the zombie corpses for further infestation, and nothing further comes out to attack. The paladin finds a few more worms in the bodies, and kills them.

Turthain shakes off the paralytic agent, free to move once again. Zhantain stops convulsing, but remains unconscious.

GM: At this point, everyone can settle in and investigate, but I'll give everyone a chance to get the bearings of each other. The party right now consists of Amirad, Austin, Lidia, Sarge, and Turthain; I'm NPCing Zhantain, and Herobizkit will be retconned in as replacing Maruial as of now.

Austin goes over to the mage and soakes a cloth in water and dabs at Zhantain's face now that he has settled down.

"Cousin Amirad, can you help the sarge. I have used the last of my healing already."

"Most unpleasant," says the elf as he shakes off his paralysis. Taking a few moments to recover, Turthain then cleans and sheathes his longsword, and then retrieves his bow. That done, he aids the others in searching the chamber for clues or valuables.
