If you are an Elf Lord or something similar, I mean.

I've spent a lot of time in the kitchen and I just picture the tip snapping off. Also, can you get it deep enough to do damage? Even something intended for boar hunting would be almost underpowered.

Presumably you're poking around trying to find an artery not too deep under the scales somewhere? A tiny little exacto knife in the wrong place can leave a human in serious trouble, presumably the same principle applies to dragons?
 





How big of a dragon are we talking about? Because even an adult dragon is as big as an elephant, and if you got a rapier all the way in that would cause a noticeable boo-boo.

Of course, the only efficient muscle-powered melee weapon is a lance (mounted use); ranged weapons could be as small as a heavy crossbow and still be mildly effective.
