Livia moves to the side of the group, trying to keep pace with them while also staying hidden...

[Iron Sky]

The craftsmen gather close as the wagon creaks its way up the last few switchbacks to the tower. At your approach, the tower seems to explode in ravens as dozens of them take flight at once, heading inland.

At the top of the switchbacks the road continues on straight off into the woods with two roads branching off to the right towards the cliff face where the tower sits. Both roads are covered by a palisade that looks to have been hastily erected, with cast off weapons, supplies, packs, tools, and other things littering the side of the road. Dozens of torches still burn along the palisade and still-wet blood splotches the stakes of the palisade and the dirt of the road.

Beyond the far palisade is a small fenced-off pen with two dead horses. The near path leads to the tower itself where the door gapes open and light flickers from the inside.

The whole scene is eerily quiet, only the distant crash of waves at the base of the cliff, the rustle of a breeze in the forest, and the fast, nervous breathing of the craftsmen who clutch their improvised weapons about you braking the silence. The salty smell of the sea mixes with the iron smell of blood and the slaughterhouse stench of the dead horses...

Kaz goes over and examines the dead horses closely, making sure that they will not rise as undead.

Eithal looks for anything out of the ordinary, but the eerie quiet of the earth is, itself, so unnatural, that it obscures her ability to discern what else may be amiss [sblock=Nature Fail]1d20+8=11

[sblock=Kaz]You are fairly certain the horses won't rise, but you probably wouldn't put money on it.[/sblock]

[sblock=Livia]You can recreate most of what happened here. Judging by the footprints, dozens of shuffling creatures pressed their way through the palisade then stomped the ground flat next to the door of the tower. The hacked-apart pieces of wood near the door imply they pulled it apart then made their way inside.

Judging by the blood and marks in the dirt, it looks as though several people were dragged out of the tower to some especially gory spots where they were probably beaten or hacked to death.

Broken crossbow bolts and javelins litter the ground around the tower and it looks as though other bodies were dragged back through the palisades and into the woods.[/sblock]

[sblock=Fredrock]If there are dead in the tower, they'll probably attack you as soon as you enter. Otherwise, your bet is that an attack would come from the woods.[/sblock]
