I haven't seen it yet, though yet is relative. I may see it 2 or 3 years from now on DVD or cable.

I can't stopping thinking Disney/Fantasia when I see or hear the title. Maybe if I read the original poem (translated to English of course) it might help.

Thumb pointing vaguely upwards, but not completely upright.

Not a bad movie, not a waste of time, just not as good as it could have been.

Opening exposition could have been better handled, and I would have liked to see more training, the 'apprenticeship' was a matter of days at most.

Cage was great, Molina was excellent, Baruchell... I actually liked the 'evil' apprentice (Kebbell) better than the main character. :erm:

The Auld Grump

If they were singers, one could say that Kebbell had fewer notes to hit but hit a higher percentage, so I cannot disagree. I think younger audiences will identify more with the lead but still love the evil apprentice, too.

For me I really started liking Kebbel's character when
they are getting ready for a wizard's duel, he figures out that Dave has no clue what he is doing, and he offers advice... Drake was not evil, Chaotic Neutral maybe, but not evil. I felt sorry for him when Horvath went and killed him for his magic.

The Auld Grump, real wizards wear comfortable square toed shoes that are suitable for standing on hard stone floors for hours on end.... :p

Not brilliant, but not at all bad. I quite enjoyed it. Sadly, I saw Inception later that same evening, and that was so good that it makes SA quite forgettable in comparison.

On the other hand: Monica Bellucci.

I liked it.

It seems that Cage and Turteltaub have a bit of a theme running - heroes who win because they are smart and educated, not because they're big and strong and shoot guns well.

One thing I found kind of offputting in the previews is that Cage's voice just does not seem... right, for a powerful good sorcerer... How did you guys find that aspect, outside of the acting?
