No, I like it right here

"Walk with me...please." The rogue waits to see if Vagan joins him.
The young watch officer was having none of it. "No, this is a good place, right here. If you're worried about being overheard, we can go inside." He motioned with his head toward the watch station.[/sblock]

[sblock= El Jefe: ]Opposed grapple. PLEASE DEAR GOD BEAT A 16! (1d20+3=20) heh woot!

I'm almost afraid to make another roll.... ah well we'll try it

Enialis will make an unarmed strike to smack his arm (carrying the crossbow) on the corner of a nearby obstruction. Bookshelf, file cabinent etc.

If there isn't something like that right next to him Enialis will take his unarmed strike and Knee the elf in the gut

Unarmed strike (1d20+3=12) /sigh ouch

in the event it hits he'll do damage for the strike (1d4+2=5) 5 damage

El Jefe: will this constitute a surprise round or would you like initiatives

Init (1d20+3=17)

And down he goes!

It seemed that his wrestling practice with the baker had done him well, for Enialis got a solid grip on the elf as he collapsed on top of him. Jobe quickly learned that a crossbow, even a small one, is not easily employed when a strapping human has a hold on both your arms. The elf's eyes opened wide in surprise. No doubt he'd have had a witty comment to make on the irony of the situation.

Ryland prepares to hammer the elf with color spray while he is grappled. He wi;; cast as soon as the elf is facing him and Enialis has his back to him.
Opening his eyes wide in surprise was not the wisest thing for Brimbor, as he caught the full brunt of a multicolored blast of magic emanating from Ryland's fingertips. Enialis felt the intensity of rainbow-colored light just over his right shoulder, as the elf collapsed under his weight. The horseman fell heavily on the little stranger, and hoped that he hadn't harmed the little guy to the point where he was incapable of speech. Somehow during all the confusion, Brimbor had managed to fire a crossbow bolt harmlessly into the wall opposite the door. Enialis's next recollection was a little gnome peering around the side of the desk and asking, "Are you all right?" Enialis was, but it was obvious that Brimbor would not be waking up soon, at least not without quite a headache.

Ooc: Naw, no initiative required. [/sblock]

[sblock=El Jefe: ]Excellent work Ryland we got him down. Now we should tie him up and wait till he regains consciousness. I'm sure he'll be willing to talk to us a bit about his employer.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if we found a bit of Wyvern poison on the tip of his bolts. It would be the only logical explanation if he came bearing a crossbow or even pulled it on us for that matter, seeing as how there's two of us.

But Ryland perhaps you might have some ideas. Obviously he was here for us. If he was here for something in the files he would've attacked Eppy while we were away.

Flodal wouldn't have known about our employment with Archer, Rilla claims she is innocent, We have Mrs. Archer as a possible suspect on speaking with Eppy. But what if.... Eppy is the killer. This assassin completely left Eppy alone, didn't bother with her at all. It was shortly after she left that he tried to pull this little stunt on us.

Perhaps its a slight bit of Paranoia. But Eppy had access to all of Archer's resources, she knew where he'd be, who he was enemies with, what jobs he on, etc.

What do you think?

Devlin shrugs, then smiles. "That's ok, I prefer the fresh air. We learned some things that I think will interest you. But rather than bore you with information you may already know, why don't you tell me what you've learned and I'll add what I can."

ooc: Diplomacy check = 13 crap! [/sblock]

"I don't know about Eppy, but we need to keep our minds open. Right now, anyone could be a suspect. The only person I can vouch for 100% is Devlin, not that I think you had anything to do with it.', he says patting the large young man on the shoulder. "Great job with manhandling this arrogant little punk. Lets tie him up, search him, and inspect those bolts.".

Good idea. I'm sure that one way or another we'll convince him to talk.

Enialis will begin to tie the man to a chair in the business room. Searching his person for any items that might be of use.

Let me tell you a story...

Vagan gave Devlin the eye. He'd played this game before, always with someone who was trying to get something for nothing...usually a lucky break that would get him off their back. "They say that patience is a virture", began the young officer. "I don't mind if you bore me. Tell me everything you know, and I'll let you know if any of it is useful." Vagan grinned just a little bit, the sort of grin that said "You have to get up earlier than that to put one over on me." Of course, just a couple of years earlier, Devlin probably could have gotten the officer to fall for that one, but a couple of years of seasoning had worked wonders for the savvy of a member of the City Watch.[/sblock]

And behind Door Number Two...

Together, the pair scooped Brimbor up off the floor and back into his seat, then secured him with some fine silk rope. They proceeded to rummage through his things, being mindful of poison or other complications. But aside from the crossbow and a case of bolts to equip it, they found little on his person. Of note was the following:

Letters of reference from several regions: Orussus, Lathirn, Medibaria, Monemvassia
Traveling papers (permission to pass, permission to import, etc.) from the same places
A ticket, good for one free meal at the Tower Inn if used today
A purse filled with gold coin...without counting it out, the pair estimated it held about 200 gold coins, Orussian Crowns and several other currencies
A scented silk handkerchief (Enialis thought this rather an odd thing for a male to carry, even an elf)

Brimbor started coming around, but did so rather slowly. The pair decided that they had a little time to plan before he was fully roused.[/sblock]

Ryland will hypnotize the elf and then interrogate him. The big question: Who killed Archer?

Enialis when he comes around, I'll use a spell to make him more amenable to answering our questions.

OOC:
Hypnotism
Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting]
Level: Brd 1, Sor/Wiz 1
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 round
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Area: Several living creatures, no two of which may be more than 30 ft. apart
Duration: 2d4 rounds (D)
Saving Throw: Will negates
Spell Resistance: Yes
Your gestures and droning incantation fascinate nearby creatures, causing them to stop and stare blankly at you. In addition, you can use their rapt attention to make your suggestions and requests seem more plausible. Roll 2d4 to see how many total Hit Dice of creatures you affect. Creatures with fewer HD are affected before creatures with more HD. Only creatures that can see or hear you are affected, but they do not need to understand you to be fascinated.
If you use this spell in combat, each target gains a +2 bonus on its saving throw. If the spell affects only a single creature not in combat at the time, the saving throw has a penalty of -2.
While the subject is fascinated by this spell, it reacts as though it were two steps more friendly in attitude. This allows you to make a single request of the affected creature (provided you can communicate with it). The request must be brief and reasonable. Even after the spell ends, the creature retains its new attitude toward you, but only with respect to that particular request.
A creature that fails its saving throw does not remember that you enspelled it.
