The Stuff of Dreams (Orsal Judging)

[sblock] Ryland will cast mage hand, takes a standard action. He will direct an object, five pounds or less, to slam into the door behind the elf, creating a diversion[/sblock]

OOC: Sorry I was gone so long.We had some car problems returning from San Francisco, and had to spend another night away.

XAOV: Great job while I was away. 5000 gold for some low level jamokes like us was too good to be true.

"Officer Vagan is out making rounds, and should be back here any moment. Can I help you?"
"No thanks, I'll wait for Officer Vagan." Devlin nods his head at the watchman and steps outside the building, preferring to wait for officer Vagan there.[/sblock]

Reporting for duty, sir!

The sun was starting to set as Devlin took in the evening air outside the watch station. The afternoon's warmth had faded into what was nearly the perfect spring evening. A few of the brighter stars were just starting to peek through the canopy of the sky.

Devlin's reverie was interupted by the sound of booted feet. He looked over to see a patrol of the city watch, led by a man in brightly polished scale mail...a man who could only be Officer Vagan.[/sblock]

As he observed Ryland making mystical gestures, an annoyed Jobe Brimbor sternly observed, "It seems that you are hard of hearing. Please clasp your hands behind your neck now or I will certainly shoot you." No sooner had he spoke than a scroll wound around a wooden rod clattered to the floor behind him. Brimbor turned to see what had made the noise.

Enialis will. *if the mage hand succeeds jump over the table and attempt to grapple the elf*
[sblock=Rules stuff: ]Our first problem is with the jump check. If Enialis would have just tried to jump up onto the desk, he'd have made it. But trying to jump OVER the desk without a running start requires a DC24...doable, but not this time. Now, just failing to jump up the height of the desk usually puts you right back on your feet where you started, but since Enialis also tried to long jump the desk (and succeeded on that part!)...[/sblock]Enialis tried to take advantage of the elf's confusion to leap over the desk and attack him. Being a horseman, he reasoned this would be little different than vaulting into the saddle. However, he misjudged the jump ever so slightly and caught the toe of one of his boots on the lip of the desk, causing him to fall awkwardly on top of Brimbor, clutching at the elf as he fell.[sblock=And more rules stuff... ]Brimbor is distracted, so he gets no AoO. I'll take the grapple roll as the melee touch attack to start the grapple, which succeeds. You now need an opposed grapple check to successfully grapple Brimbor. You need to beat a 16.[/sblock]

/sigh again with the grapples I guess. I just hope this goes better than against the baker.
[sblock=Commentary: ]I was going to say that Brimbor was not the grappler that Faversham was, but after this roll, I'm not so sure! :uhoh: [/sblock][/sblock]

Devlin watches the patrol approach and tries to catch Vagan's eye without being too obvious.
Just as the patrol was about to enter the watch station, Officer Vagan "stepped out of formation" and approached Devlin. "Is there something I can help you with?", he asked flatly.[/sblock]

"I thought we might be able to have a little information exchange." Devlin takes a few steps down the street, "Walk with me...please." The rogue waits to see if Vagan joins him.[/sblock]
