Things you'd like to see from WoTC but never will...

Magic: the Gathering d20. I know I should be burned at the stake, but I find the setting really cool; plus, it would involve the creation of a new and original magic system. They've got all the IP they need, as well.

OGC in every major non-world specific release (or timely inclusion in the SRD of every major release.)
Hell yeah.

I just happen to have a long wooden pole and some matches here. Now, if you would kindly lash yourself to the stake we can get started. ;)

Masque of the Red Death 3.5 - with some freaking supplements this time!

As you command, so mote it be!

It's on the schedule for the Ravenloft line being put out by White Wolf/Sword and Sorcery Studios. It's not the sort of thing which interests me overly much, but I'm sure with a little bit of scrounging around, you could find out about it on the Kargatane site.

Things I'd like to see from WoTC but never will:

1. Error-free books.
2. Indexes for all books.
3. Art that's not all spikey/strappy.
4. Full digital support. As in, a fully digital set of rules with all the latest corrections and errata, cross-referenced and hotlinked.
5. A decent D&D movie.

There have been some good ideas here.

I like some of the following:

Greyhawk Campaign Setting: I just finished the Dragonlance book and enjoyed it greatly. I don't think it quite hit the Forgotten Realms book but it came pretty close.

Magic the Gathering: Like a few others, I enjoy some of the elements of this setting. The weird fantasy-technology, the Planewalkers, the whole mechanical dimension with it's alien ruler, the various monsters. I'd settle for a book of cool stuff like the monsters, ships, magic items, characters and other goods and forget the constantly shifting campaign setting.

Hate to say it, but I'm pretty much a diehard for all the old classics like Mystara, Spelljammer, Planescape, Al-Qadim and others. Never liked Red Steel, Hollow Lands, Maztica or the Horde though.

Indexes and more proofreading would also be a goodsend. I couldn't believer that the Dragonlance book didn't have an index despite superior table of contents.

What I want but will never have?

3E All In One. One book, no bigger than the PH is right now, or maybe a little bigger. I think it could be done, by dropping the vast majority of Wonderous Items, cutting about a third of the spells, and about half the monsters. That gives a one-book starter. Then make another larger Monster Manual, an MM just for high-level campaigns, and an Extra-Planar one.

While I fully support the OGL, how exactly will thins make DMing more fun for me?

Olive, it would allow 3rd party publishers to incorporate material from the non-Core books more easily. Think how long it took to get any psionics support because the psionic book started out, or think about how long people were asking for Planescape to get put into the SRD so that other people could use it.

I'll second this one.

Also, how about a campaign design guide based on Ray Winninger's Dungeoncraft articles? I'll bet Ray would jump at the chance, if they'd just ask. Alternatively, have several designers collaborate on this, providing different viewpoints (similar to what J. Dyal is doing on his website currently).

You'd still have a huge book, even cutting those things. The DMG is still over 250 pages when cutting out a big chunk of the magic items, the MM is still 125+ pages when cutting half the critters and the PHB is still aroun 175+ pages when you drop a huge chunk of spells. That leaves a 550+ page book.

It's not a bad idea/wish but I just don't think it would work. As a player you really only need the PHB anyway. :)
