Things you'd like to see from WoTC but never will...

I'd like to see actual support for bringing new players into the game. Like, I don't know, actually selling RPG products in their few remaining stores. Or, some way to introduce my children to the game that doesn't require memorizing stat blocks that are two pages long!

Barring that, I'd like to see Al-Qadim and an expansion of the Spelljammer mini-game into a real game.

Wait, Wait, I'd like to see them re-hire actual RPG designers like Monte, Skip, Chris....Not everything they did was great, but anyone involved in Planescape should be brought back. Of course, I'd hate to have Green Ronin and Malhavic go away, so maybe not.

Oh, and if anyone ever does another Deity book, make it like the FR books where the churches, societies...were described. Book of the Righteous is one of the best books I've ever read (over and over), why no one has tried something similar is a mystery.

Oh, it occurs to me that, while I slipped in a little tid-bit on Masque of the Red Death, I hadn't actually put up what I would like to see, but probably won't.

Planescape! It was riddled with some questionable philosophy at times, and may have been a bit too grand a scope for the writers to fully deal with, but all in all, it was one of the more interesting, unique settings out there, that I also happened to like. It was quite a bit more intellectual and thought provoking than all the other settings out there (Ravenloft certainly has its moments and moral quandaries, though), and so very much emphasized the playing of a role over the hacking and the slashing. For all its failings, the positive aspects far outshined them.

Beyond that, though...? Hmm. Some of the stuff I wanted to see is already being done. The moment the Book of Vile Darkness came out I thought that a Book of Exalted Deeds would just be dandy. It's only my hope that the Book of Exalted Deeds is a bit less simplistic in its morality as I thought Vile Darkness was; judging by the preview, I'm unfortunately inclined to say it won't be. But there you have that.

Ermm...what else...maybe for them to turn Githzerai back into Chaotic Neutral Fighter/Wizards with an Intelligence bonus as opposed to the tepid Lawful Neutral Monks with an Intelligence negative that they currently are. It took me a while to warm up to Githzerai in the first place, only really starting to get into them thanks to Dak'kon in Torment, and then they go and screw it all up. Maybe not quite what this thread is about, but there you have it.

Oh...let's see...a Deities and Demigods which is more than just stats would be nice.

Splat books that go for less than $20?

Less prestige class based books?

There's probably a bit more. However, seeing as how most of my D&D fix comes through the Scarred Lands and Ravenloft these days, I dunno. I think I'm content for the most part. I don't expect much from Wizards for the most part. Unearthed Arcana looks promising.

Hello,

Hmm...things I'd like to see from WotC but never will...

  • GAZ15 The Kingdom of Wendar
  • Mystara once again the default D&D campaign world.
  • or, failing that, 3.5e hardcover treatments of either of my two favorite campaign worlds, Mystara or Birthright, done with the care and sheer quality lavished on the 3e Realms hardcover.
  • Gauntlets of Ogre Power and Girdles of Giant Strength that actually give bonuses equal to the racial STR bonuses of Ogres and Giants. If you're going to tone them down, fine, but at least have the honesty to rename them (say, Gauntlets of Power and Girdle of Might).

Things I'd like to see, and actually have some faint hope for, include

  • Monomorph changed back into Polymorph, or at least, if they're going to leave it so badly crippled, set back to verbal-component only (my only real gripe with 3.5).
  • a fixed psionics system, that at the very least aligns all the disciplines with the stats of the MIND (that's INT, WIS, and CHA for you guys at WotC).
  • the ability to recharge charged magic items put back in the D&D rules - perhaps as a Feat, allowing you to recharge any item you have the pre-req Feats and spells for, at the standard per-charge GP and XP rate.

There are my off-the-top-of-my-head lists...have fun with them! :)
