D&D 5E (2014) Those who come from earlier editions, why are you okay with 5E healing (or are you)?

I look at it like this. Not every lingering wound has to be catastrophic. You don’t have to have amputations or broken limbs to justify healing slower. How long does a bruise have to heal? Or any abrasion? Heck, I bet if you took all the posters here, and made every one of them do a single hour of high intensity anaerobic exercise, the painful limiting effects would last longer than a day (it usually takes me 3 days for the soreness to fully go away), and that’s just exertion; no actual damage taken.
Yeah in my 4e-like game PCs can acquire wounds which use the disease track. A player can put a wound on his character to mitigate some catastrophic HP loss for instance. They could also be accepted as a way to gain some kind of advantage.
This works well, most wounds are narratively logical and appropriate, and in less important situations are unlikely to show up and spoil the story.

Honestly I don't think 5e is a good fit for ...puzzle solving style play where HP are primarily a resource to manage.
I think it certainly can be, at least as much as any other traditional-D&D-derivative game.
It does still have hps, and limited ways of managing then in combat and between combats - and little meaningful management to be done between adventures.

Either you can only recover from serious wounds with magic or at the rate that adventurers are wounded you will never recover.
Or you change the rate that adventurers are wounded. Instead of considering an adventure to be a success when you survive, consider it to be a failure when you get hurt.

That's generally not how the game works though. Some groups might be able to pull it off, but honestly I'm not sure how.

Avoid taking unnecessary risks, just like we always did in 2E, when nobody played a healer.

Although, that's much more difficult in 5E, given its thrice-cursed Bounded Accuracy.

If you ever have combat you're going to get hit. It would be a very different game than what I've ever played.

In 4E or 5E, yes, because the math is stacked against you. The games are built to enforce the idea that you will get hit.

In 3E, you can build for AC, and that actually means something.

In 2E, there are no expected encounter guidelines, so it's easier to avoid things that are too dangerous.

It's been a long time since I played 1 or 2E, but I remember us using a lot of magical healing.

In 5E, I run a very heavy RP game but difficult fights are part of the game. If people never get hit, it would be boring.

I've played with people in 5e who built for AC and never got hit.

Honestly, it was a bit funny, but it is also just supremely annoying, because every time the DM targeted them we knew it attack unless they crit.

And, you can be just as sneaky and avoiding combat in 5e as you can in literally any other edition.

So, I'm not really seeing your point here.
