Ties that Bind - 3.5 Forgotten Realms Gestalt

Nice backstory Rystil and I forgot to answer your question a while back.

Quick Question: For the free 2nd-level power 3/day ability, would you rule that I could use that to eliminate the first 3 points of the price of an augmented 1st-level power or does it have to be the first 3 points of the price of a 2md-level power? The same question applies in general to that whole line of abilities.

I will allow the higher level ones to be used to power (augmented) lower level ones, but obviouly not the other way around. I don't think it was intended to be used this way, but quite frankly the ability isn't that good so I'm fine with giving it a little boost.

How d'ya want us to generate hit points? Random roll? Flat amount per die?

Good question. Max at first level and use the following each level after that.

d4-3
d6-5,4 (alternate)
d8-6
d10-8,7 (alternate)
d12-8
d20-oh wait, only the DM uses that for HP rolls...

Neat, thanks! I agree with you that it wouldn't be fair to use the low levels ones to partially power high ones too :)

I'm mid-move for a few days, when are you choosing?

My choice is sort of mixed between my dwarf and the spellguard, and it would depend upon the rest of the characters really, but since I have to choose...

I'll go with the Spellguard as my choice and will try to get a background as soon as possible.

I was hoping to do that on Wednesday. If you (or anyone else for that matter) can't get your history and what not up by then though, I will hold off since I originally said Friday of next week. The sooner the better though, cause I want to keep things moving along in this game.

Gabrion,

Added Description and History. Let me know if you need or want anything else. Decided on a name (changed from what I sent you).

Question: Does psion qualify as a spellcasting class for purposes of receiving the regional equipment and regional feat?

Keia

One more thing I need from (almost) all of you
It would help me a great deal if you added something to your character seperate from history that says why he/she is so kick ass. What things will your character be really good at/how does he/she fight/generally what's cool about the character are all good things to put here. Think of it as an opportunity to sell your character. This particular bit will help me in deciding characters.

Done. Is being fast a plus?

Question: Does psion qualify as a spellcasting class for purposes of receiving the regional equipment and regional feat?

Corollary follow-up question--since I don't have PGtF on me, can someone let me know what my choices are or point to a shortened list of regional equipment? As for regional feats, if the answer to Keia's question is 'yes', then I don't know if Mind Over Body is on the list for Nimbral/Halruaa/Illithids/Githzerai, but I think it would be highly appropriate to represent the monastic training she received in Limbo (I also don't know what it does because I only saw it on an online list of FR feats, but it sounds like something psion-monkish and it said it required arcane casterishness). If not, no worries--there's so many totally awesome feats for psions that I can't even take all the ones I want anyways :)

One thing about your history-I’m pretty sure Changelings are the descendents of Humans and Doppelgangers (far down the line), so you might want to change the bit about her mom. If you’ve read somewhere that they can have parents not from that kind of lineage let me know.
My source is Races of Eberron since I don't remember any other book having them as a player race. There it says that Changelings are descendants from Doppelgangers and Humans, yes. But since then they evolved into a race that breeds true and can have children with nearly every humanoid race. The child then has a 50% chance of being either. See page 45 -> changeling reproduction. If you don't own the book I can type you that little paragraph.
Unless you use another source... then please tell me which one so I can correct it.

Also... it should be Elocater 7... not 12 ;) and shadowlord 4... I really like that shadowpounce thingy...

I'll put all the other info you wanted in my char-sheet tomorrow.

Keia

That depends on the feat/equipment. Usually they aren't considered the same for things like that, but if you ask about specific examples they may be allowed.

The regional benefits are meant to represent training a character could have recieved by virtue of growing up in an area that focuses on certain types of training. To be honest Rystil, it would make more sense to say your home region is limbo. Since a list doesn't exist for that area, use the following options for regional feats:

  • Fleet of foot-+10 speed
  • Mind over body-Use Int or Cha at first level to determine bonus HP (instead of Con). Gain +1 HP with every Metamagic/Metapsionic feat you take. Gain +1 insight bonus to AC.
  • Strong Soul-+1 to Fort and Will Saves, or +3 to saves against death effects, energy drain, and ability drain attacks.
  • Tireless-Ignore fatigue and reduce exhaustion to fatigue

Remember everyone that regional feats are not bonus feats, they are just an option for what you can take at first level. As far as regional equipment goes, I'm not really concerned with that, cause none of it is worth very much and I'm giving more wealth than 12th level characters normally have. If there is something you want, just buy it!

I don't use Eberron stuff (I'm generally against that setting), but I do like the details they give the changeling. The pre-Eberron changeling can be found in MMIII though. I'm not even sure they talk about reproduction in MMIII, so we'll go with the info from RoE on this one. You can have a dwarf parent. Also, since I do kinda like this one little bit about Eberron (details on Changelings that is), feel free to use the archetypes they have for the race (like seekers or becomers or whatever), if you think it will add to your character.

Wow, I really messed up when I wrote out your progression....let me go fix that.

Okay cool, thanks! I think I'm not going to take Mind Over Body then because it doesn't stack with Defensive Precognition. Plus there are so many other awesome feats out there, including the must-haves (Psicrystal Affinity, Psicrystal Containment, Psionic Meditation) and the goodies (Overchannel, Talented, Twin Power, Quicken Power, Empower Power, Expanded Knowledge[Astral Construct], and more, but that's already more than I can have). I'll have 8 feats, and another 2 at level 15. Hmm....
