Time stop +death attack

I Don/t have the DMG to look at death attack but its 3 rounds I think?
Would it be possable to Time stop then 3 rounds later death attack?

The rounds that you gain from time stop could be used for observation to make a death attack once the time stop ended.

Because it's not a computer game, there's a thinking DM at the helm who should prevent this sort of stupidness and wack any player who wants to try and make this work.

It all depends on the DM's interpretation of the 3 round observation for an assassin's death attack. Is the assassin observing behavior and attitude or are they simply observing the target's apparent armor, defenses, etc. in order to make a single, lethal attack? I personally feel that it's the latter. Heck, if the enemy is essentially frozen in place then I think it'd help the prospective killer to single out a weak spot to make their attack.

Regardless, isn't this a moot point? I don't think any campaign is at terrible risk from arcane casters that multiclass into assassins. This tactic is far from any exploit in my opinion due to the glaring drawbacks. Sure, they can use a Time Stop and use the rounds observing the enemy in order to make a death attack, but why not skip the process of making such a convoluted character build and spending a 9th level spell slot in order to just cast an outright save-or-die spell?

I actually see it as a combination of behavior & apparent defences. I'd either rule against it, or if the player was really pathetic I'd allow it but with a reduced save DC.

Berk: Personally, I think that anyone willing to spend the cost on a 9th level scroll and can make the UMD check on it deserves those 1d4+1 free rounds. The alternative means simply hiding and waiting the rounds while your party keeps fighting and then get your attack in.

Taren: I think the behavior aspect is very, very minimal when conducting a death attack since the subject cannot know you are a threat and you have to make it flat-footed. So it's not like you have to know which way they are ducking and weaving in response to you. My interpretation is that the observation is sizing up an open spot in the armor or defenses to make a sneak attack with potentially lethal effect.
