D&D 5E Todd Kenreck Interview, Crawford Teases Hobgoblin News

Does it mention exactly what the whole Mist Mage, Warsinger, Scale Druid and all that have been mentioned in a couple of their twitter posts in regard to each of the Colleges in Strixhaven? I don't think they are actual subclasses but I'm not sure what they could be. Unless they are like Features you can swap out with your normal Subclass features. Link provided to show an example of what I'm talking about.

Those are callouts to Magic Cards from the Strixhaven Set, may be in the text as fluff rather than anything mechanical:

Got ya. Part of me thought they reworked the UA into swappable features that applied to like certain classes. Which would be interesting. But now what you mention makes sense.
It seems that they reworked the Subclasses into Backgrounds that come with a bonus Feat, basically combining the Ravnica Guild Backgrounds with Supernatural Gifts from Theros.

Based on the creative twists in the Strixhaven cards, and what they did with refluffing in the Ravnica book, I would not be surprised if we will see build suggestions for those monikers (like, play a War Cleric and call it a Warsinger, with these RP fluff aspects). I'm interested to see how Clerics and Warlocks get treated in the fictional positioning of the book, as they are "White Mages" and "Black Mages" in MtG without the patronal aspects.

I think what they are getting at is there isn't much in the way of unannounced product within the approx 12 month window since the hobgoblin UA. There is Monsters of the Multiverse, Call of the Netherdeep, and one of 2 classic settings.
They aren’t bound to a specific window, and those two classic settings are…unannounced products.

Not to mention that they sometimes change timelines, and may have pushed soemthing back before the most recent round of announcements, they could be spreading stuff out because they’re going to need to test a lot of stuff, or any number of other explanations.

🤷‍♂️

Or, they could have done that interview before the monster book was announced. We don’t know.

It’s unlikely, IMO, that Crawford just wildly misspoke or outright lied, and the hobs are for a book that has been announced. There’s no point to the lie, and no reason to misspeak in that way.

Okay?

The whole point of the thread is that we don’t know, so insistently challenging me on this specific thing is rather weird.

Except we pretty much do know, we know a book is coming out with updated versions of most of the races published outside the PHB, like for example the Hobgoblin and Kobold. It's unlikely the UA Hobgoblin will be in an Adventure.

And the settings most likely to be release have far, far more iconic races then Hobgoblins, if they even have Hobgoblins.

So if not MP: MotM, where would they go, and what happened to the Hobgoblins & Kobold's in MP: MotM.

I mean all the unused UA races from this year are either Spelljammer races, Strixhaven Owlin race (which I suspect will reappear in MP: MotM), Dragonborn from FToD, or new takes on already published races, the sort of thing that will appear in MP: MotM.

The book has been announced, but what races have made it into it have not been. Jeremy likely doesn't realize how obvious it actually is.

Okay.

They aren’t bound to a specific window,
It's not a case of being "bound", it's a case of something for a product more than a year out wouldn't be ready for testing. Folk of the Feywild was published back in March. Even "next book after Netherdeep" is pushing the window.

And Spelljammer has been mentioned. But is unlikely IMO, since space hobgoblins are not fae and are not an important part of the setting. Any other classic setting is even less likely. - the Feywild as we have it now is relatively new to D&D. (okay, Nentir Vale is new enough, but is a very unlikely candidate).
Or, they could have done that interview before the monster book was announced.
This seems plausible.

Could also be some sort of boxed set or other non-standard product, but in that case it would be inherently unguessable.
