Too many bonuses!!!!

I have a buddy who plays a rogue, with all the archery feats possible. Now here comes a sorcerer who dumps greater magic weapon on her bow, and on her arrows, for a +6 total. Legal? It certainly seems overpowered!

By the rules, yes it's legal.

Is it overpowered? Probably not... But in the end, it's up to the DM. They can always Rule 0 it.

The enhancement bonuses from magic arrows and a magic bow do stack. So, you can have a +5 longbow with +5 arrows and you would have +10 to attacks and damage.

Legal: Yes
Overpowered: No

People have hadf these tpoye of characters since day one. If it seems unbalancing it may because your not challenging the PCs. Or perhaps everyone is using their resource to make the archer shine.

Does seem overpowered to me... but if like the previous poster suggested you "challenge" them more... you might end up killing the other players in order to "balance" it for this Archer Demon...

Good min/max combo of spell and archer abilities... my only suggestion is use Control Winds or Weather to make Archery impossible against your Arch NPC villain..

IMO the game mechanics fit fairly nicely. By the time he has that +6 to hit with his bow (I'm assuming a high dex, weapon focus, archery feats, etc.) then you need to match his level with the encounters. If he is 4th or 5th level, then adjust the encounters accordingly. Without all of those bonuses, which afterall, are just numbers in a number crunching game, that character and the party would never be able to get past orc, goblin, and kobold encounters. You can't compare this edition's game mechanics with those of earlier editions either.

And remember: what your players can do, you can do. Greater Magic Weapon is a perfect way to give enemies +3 weaponry without providing the party with 18k worth of stuff every time. And an npc sorcerer won't use all his spells in a fight anyway, so while the party is losing spells, your npc's are hardly.

Just so I'm completely clear on the subject, I believe the damage bonus from being a mighty bow also stacks with the enchantment bonuses. So if a character had a +5 mighty composite longbow, +5 arrows, and an 18 STR, his total bonus would be +10 to hit and +14 damage. Correct?

Correct.

Onto the original Question, whether it is overpowered or not. No, it is not overpowered. To create +5 weapons, a Cleric must be 11th+ level even with Necklace of Prayer Beads, 15th+ level if not. At that level, there are a lot of other ways to boost up your buddy fighters. Also note, a human sized bow cannot get str bonus to damage beyond +4. On the other hands, if you boost up melee guy's str, there is no upper limit he can accept.

I thought they only stacked for attacks and not damage for damage only the arrows plus and any 'mighty' bonus from strength counts.

Thus you could have a +4 Mighty, +5 Composite Longbow with +5 arrows.

It would be +10 to hit and +9 to damage.

[EDIT]

Thanks for the pointer Thanee, I checked the SRD and found the bit that explains it more clearly so the correct values would be.

+10 to hit and +14 to damage with a +5 to see if it could get through DR (and it you can't you should be running away just about now).

Shame even a +5 arrow is a one shot item (assuming you hit), as it could work out very expensive to be an archer. Something like 1000 gp a shot for +5 arrows.
