Towards a Grittier d20 Trek!

Ah. I must've confused the Admiral with his ponchy, desk-piloting peers. ;)

Injured and Wounded levels with Fatigued and Exhausted game effects, OK. No Mas, check.

The Cover: is that the rarely seen Borg Dodecahedron, or a Tholian Dreadnaught? :D Is that how the Wanderer looks? I was gonna submit stats for it. What specificiations do ya want, or would you rather stat her?

Before I submit a name, is this legally tight? As long as it's free, fan-fiction we're safe, yes?

It's a massive d20... because I think it's hilarious. As far as I know... we're safe... there are literally dozens of Trek sites out there that don't get busted... We could always throw in bad jokes and call it a parody.

And yeah... that's the Wanderer. Built in trueSpace4.3 by me several years ago for this very project... now I'm finally gonna do it.

PS: Did you just volunteer for the one ship or the whole "Ships" section of the book... cuz... I need that... Or at least someone to go over several large tables of parts to make sure I'm not high on my starship bits.

Here's the relavent bits on damage... note the lack of the massive damage rules.

Effects of Hit Point Damage
With no damage taken, a character is healthy, he remains in that state until his Hit Point loss exceeds 32% of his total.
From 33% to 65%, a character is injured.
From 66% to 99%, a character is wounded.
At 0 hit points, a character is disabled.
At from –1 to –9 hit points, a character is dying.
At –10 or lower, a character is dead.

Healthy (0 to 32% of Hit Points Lost)
A healthy character has taken no damage or very little damage. He acts normally, with no reductions in any abilities due to injury.

Injured (33% to 65% of Hit Points Lost)
An injured character has taken between 33% and 65% of his Hit Points. He suffers a -2 penalty to Strength and Dexterty.

Wounded (66% to 99% of Hit Points Lost)
A wounded character has taken between 66% and 99% of his Hit Points. He suffers a -2 penalty to Strength and Dexterty.

I don't know about the rest of the open content stuff, but until we playtest it, we won't know what to add. Kirinke is good enough for me. :)

I'm no expert on rules, but if you need help with the fluff, I'll be glad to pitch in.

Jephkay, how about if I do the Wanderer, you look it over, and from our combining notes we determine how to do all Starships? Use L. D. Johnson for my name, if you'd like.

So for thresholds, Injured is Fatigued and Wounded is a penalty that stacks on top of Injured's penalty (-2 + -2 = -4)?

I thought Wounded equaled Exhausted:

Exhausted
Heroes who are exhausted move at half speed and cannot run or charge. Furthermore, they take a –6 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. After 1 hour of complete, uninterrupted rest, an exhausted character becomes fatigued.

I think the -6 is good because when Trek characters get this hurt they usually win out from strategy, not brawn. It's gritty ;) , but your call.

Do ya wanna do some kinda Fort save mechanic to avoid permanent effects for recover from negative HP (leg lost, artificial heart needed)?

Kirinke, I dont fo PBP, but we could maybe do a chat session?

I think that's a bad Cut and Paste Error... your correction is welcomed!

OK, I'll get on the Wanderer with my house ruled d20 ship system. Will explain difference from norm as needed.

I want to stay as close to d20 Future as we can. Obviously, some new engines, shields, that kinda thing... but nothing too outre, pleeeeze. :)

Edit: That sounded kinda harsh... how about... um... I'll comment on your changes after I see them. If they are too far out from my vision, we'll discuss it. (And I was looking around for a ship system... I don't think I'd decided how I wanted to do it.)]\

I was definately going to index speed and power by time period of common use. For that matter, ships just get bigger and deadlier over time, that we'll certainly agree on. I want this system to be able to handle Enterprise, TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY and whatever else they come up with. Are your house rules amenable to this idea?

Not harsh, no. Your project, you're the one that'll get sued, this earns ya editorial power :D

I've got D20 Future and Future Tech, they've ... got problems, but it's doable by the RAW. All of Trekdom fits in Progress level 8, no big deal.

Specifications are needed from ya though. How big? Crew complement? Civilain ship so has moderate to low weaponry, but you want her tough or quick?

She's an old Orion frieghter, recommisioned after who knows how long in mothballs. One source I read (CODA-Trek, methinks) claims the Orions have been a spacefaring race for thousands of years, so there's no telling how old the ship really is. Even better from a Plot Generation Perspective (tm), there is a large number of components that no longer function. What do they do? The ship flies, generates oxygen and shields, but there are all these other parts... hmmmm...

I imagine her being able to take large amounts of damage. Its mostly empty space, being a frieghter. The living quarters are concentrated in the upper decks, with that large oval area in front being a vast open carge bay. The engineering module is out back and stuffed with mysterious alien junk.

Every once in a while, Nimal tries to turn on one of these "Silent Components" as he calls them, and something odd happens. It's my intention that in the absence of a holodeck, the ship itself is a source of weirdness. On occasion, the alien junk will activate itself, just for fun.
