CODA is the die system used for Decipher's official Star Trek RPG. It reminds me a bit of D20 but the primarily roll 2d6 with modifiers from various things.

I like how in their damage system getting hurt ... hurts. ;) My suggested change to HP is much simpler than how they do damage though overall.

Mmm. Well unless the Star trek RPB is in something like an SRD online, I don't know if I'll be able to get my hands on it anytime soon unfortunantly.

Next question.
When can we start playing this thing? Tales of the Wanderer would be fun to test first. ;)

I've never done a play by post... are there some guidelines? Somewhere? Suggestions?

Perhaps I should read the pbp stuff around here... get a clue or two...

On Wounds and Such Matters

I honestly don't remember what penalties CODA layered on at various levels... we hardly ever had PCs in combat (melee or ranged). It was mostly ship to ship action.

I figure the penalties might work out to
% of Total HP Penalty
60 -2 to all checks, to hit and STR-Based damage
30 -4 " " "
10 -8 " " "

But let's see... Rear Admiral Dash Ramrod (100 HP - Thresholds at 60, 30 and 10 HP) takes 45 points from a lucky phaser shot... he's at 55 between 30 and 60 so he's at -2 to everything.

Ensign Ricky, with 38 HP (thresholds at 23, 12 and 4) on the other hand... that same shot puts him in sickbay... or dead if he's in Security.

At smaller amounts of damage... say... 30 pts... Ensign Ricky is nearly dead with -8 to all skills, and ADM Ramrod is still happily bustin' Romulan butt in the Neutral Zone.

So... the alternative is that the more experienced character and the newb are still just fine, having lost 30 hp. That's the unrealistic viewpoint, isn't it?

Right! Damage Thresholds are IN... unless there is overwelming opposition.

Mostly, I'd say just go in talking the talk forum or the play by post forums and read up a bit. Also, I think there are some old threads dealing with Play by Posts and if you're confused on it, put up a thread in general asking about them.

They're pretty fun. :) Nowadays it's about the only way I can get to game.

Ooo. Found the PBP Sticky. Here.

I like the thresholds but using fatigued and exhausted are simpler and already explained in the Modern book. Str & Dex -2 means -1 to all physical skills, attacks, defense; exhausted means -3 to them. I imagined a new "Taxed" level in between these two, STR & DEx -4, but thought it too complex to do quarter instead of thirds. Why use uneven intervals?

Are we still doing Massive damage saves, cause Ramrod may not be whistling dixie taking 45 damage (especially if it's scaled). ;)

I thought about that after I posted it. Then I went to bed anyway. You're right... Thirds it is... How about calling those Thresholds "Injured" and "Wounded"... or Wilma and Betty :)... just not Fatigued and Exhausted... use the same mechanic... just call it something more logical.

Oh.. and you don't know Dash Ramrod... he's got grit... :)

Ya'll are gonna have to tell me what names to add to the cover... Enworld handle? real name? Inform me....

Massive Damage saves are replaced by the Hit Point Thresholds. Otherwise, we're gonna have to play with a stack of alternate character sheets.

Are there any other Open Content mechanics we want to nick for this project? Speak Up!

Ah. I must've confused the Admiral with his ponchy, desk-piloting peers. ;)

Injured and Wounded levels with Fatigued and Exhausted game effects, OK. No Mas, check.

The Cover: is that the rarely seen Borg Dodecahedron, or a Tholian Dreadnaught? :D Is that how the Wanderer looks? I was gonna submit stats for it. What specificiations do ya want, or would you rather stat her?

Before I submit a name, is this legally tight? As long as it's free, fan-fiction we're safe, yes?
