Whaa??! Another bloody old man? What is with this place...

Finnian walks towards the man with the drawn bow and lets Erlai fly to a spot on the porch as he opens his arms and gestures for the man to stand down.

Look here. We don't mean no harm. We're just trying to help is all. Eustin sent us over to try and help out. See that mess on the porch there, passed out? That's Marco bloody Polo there and he brought us over to call on the guy on the porch, see. Well he's babbling on about rats and stars and eating crackers in the library all that. We're just trying to help. No harm at all here. Just put down the bow, see and maybe you can help us talk to the old man, alright?

Finnian's arms are open wide and he walks towards the old man slowly.

Diplomacy Check (1d20+3=14)

"You orcs got a funny way of helping folks--showing up on the lawn with swords and axes drawn, terrorizin' the help, and agitatin' a senile old cripple."

"One of 'em is walking towards us, gran'pa! And the big cow looks like it's about to bust down the door."

The old man squints harder. He moves his head back and forth, at a variety of angles, apparently trying to resolve his vision. "For Daunton! For freedom!" he says, letting another arrow fly.

This one hits the ground, just inches from Finnian's foot.

"Low and to the left, gran'pa!"

"By thunder!" curses the old man, drawing another shaft.

Ignore the old man. It seems it would't hit an elephant from two feet, anyway. I want to try something I was taught at the academy... in saying so, Hadarai closes his eyes briefly and concentrates, gesturing with his shielded arm for Emral to come closer You're a mage, Emral, do you perceive something strange here?

Arcana aid Emral: 12, so +2 to his next Arcana check.

Drivan hears the old man mutter something about detect magic, Well it seems rude but since the housekeeper here has broken down and isn’t offering any help I suppose we’ll have to do what we can.”

Drivan concentrates, closing his eyes for a moment to attune himself to the magical world…

[sblock=Arcana Check] [16,10] = (26) [/sblock]

Emral, like Drivan, looks at the world the way a mage should, looking deeper than the surface of events. He uses his mage's sight and his wisdom

[sblock]Insight: 1d20+8=16
Arcana: 1d20+9=15

+2 either way is 18 for Insight, 17 for Arcana.

sorry for the delay. I'm in the midst of assignments and revving up for a survival job. Frickin' lottery sold me the wrong ticket, so no millions for me!
Also, I've been playing with the CB, and ongoing doodles when I get the time, and I really don't think Emral should be the party Wizard (Drivan's doing a good job of being a scholar anyway). I think he's more of a Sorcerer, actually. I'm going to wait until after the arena, to be sure, but the "complete overhaul" we're allowed I'm going to switch him up a bunch. If the party stays together after that... yay![/sblock]

Ignore the old man. It seems it would't hit an elephant from two feet, anyway."
"What'd that skinny orc say?"

"He said to ignore you, gran'pa. You couldn't hit an elephant from two feet."

"Why that...!"

Another arrow is loosed, smashing a potted plant to the left of the maid, Annie.

Annie dives for the ground, covering her head with her arms. She squeals, then bites it down.

[sblock=To Reklaw]Your diplomacy check worked. Just not necessarily in the manner you intended... ;)[/sblock]

[sblock=Arcana Check]There is one hell of a magical aura surrounding the old man's head.[/sblock]

[sblock=Drivan's Arcana Check]On a mystical plane, you perceive something sticking out of Swillwort's ear. It looks like a twisted piece of paper, probably torn from a book. It seems strangely tangible. You could probably reach out and take it...[/sblock]

[sblock=Emral's Insight Check]Annie is terrified and overwhelmed. She wants to defend Swillwort from your group, which she perceives as criminal ruffians, but it has spiraled out of her control. Also, people neither call her the Space Cowboy nor the Gangster of Love.[/sblock]

[sblock=And finally...]Emral has to apply the +2 bonus to the Arcana check.

The complete overhaul won't permit you to change character classes.[/sblock]

Drivan reaches out towards the elder's ear, attempting to pull forth the strange piece of parchment.

He then turns to the young boy, "Young... Warrior, could you let your grandfather know that his weapon isn't needed, we are not orcs but adventurers. In fact if you'd like to see some true monsters come and see us at THE TURTLEDOME in a few days!"

OOC: Well...

That's what you plan to happen. This is what REALLY happens...

Drivan reaches out towards the elder's ear, attempting to pull forth the strange piece of parchment.

He then turns to the young boy, "Young... Warrior, could you let your grandfather know that his weapon isn't nee--"

The twisted paper jerks and whips, like a living thing. It zips into the old man's ear with such force that it sucks Drivan's arm--all the way to the shoulder--into the old man's head.

Drivan can feel something dry and...papery...sniffing at his fingers.
