TURTLEDOME!: Battle Bone (DM: KenHood, Judge: Lord S.)

[sblock=Weldon]Got it. Since the sword's property isn't active, the broadsword will hit.[/sblock]

[sblock=Mohalloran]Are you sure about the move? That means you'll provoke an opportunity attack from the swarm. Chances are you ain't gonna take a hit, because the monster has a -5 to attack rolls.[/sblock]

[sblock=Lord Sessadore or Ata]Quick rules question, 'cause I can't seem to find it in the books. Say one of my players gets whacked twice by the rat swarm. Does that mean the character has two separate 3 HP damage per round (save ends) effects going, for a total of 6 HP per round?[/sblock]

[sblock=Capturing Rats]Y'all gotta let me know if y'all are gonna try to capture a particular rat. Otherwise, I'm assuming you're striking to kill.

I'm not going to let y'all strike for unconsciousness on the rat swarm. There's two many little ones to 'knock out' per se.[/sblock]

[sblock=rules]Just because I happen to have the answer handy: ongoing damage of the same type does not stack. PHB p.278. So if they get hit by two different attacks that both give 3 ongoing untyped damage (save ends), they're only taking 3 damage, and a single save ends it.

Going back to lurking (and giggling) now. :) [/sblock]

Thanks, Covaithe!

Round 1 Continued...
Finnian engages the origami rat. Though the grip of the Sword of Five Elements feels a bit uncomfortable with the bits of Cousin Eustace's bone and skin charred into the leather, it does a more than serviceable job of cleaving the paper beast in twain. The creature makes no sound as it dies, but all the writing on its skin changes to...
Dear *****,

****** you.

Sincerely,
The Rat
The rat swarm attacks Vaunea, but she dashes aside the tiny creatures and her scale mail protects her from their sharp, paper nips.

[sblock=Action]Aura Attack: v. AC (1d20+6-5, 1d6+3=[6, 6, -5], [6, 3])[/sblock]

As Vaunea takes a step, a chunk of the swarm hurls itself at her, but her shield holds against the assault.

[sblock=Action]Opportunity Attack: v. AC (1d20+6-5=6, 1d6+3=7)[/sblock]

Vaunea yells and approaches her origami rat. The creature trembles in terror. A ball of paper drops from its hindquarters. You can see the word, "Feces," written on its crumpled surface.

Her axe lops off the head of the parchment animal.

In the origami rat's death throes, the writing on its body reassembles into...
Why me? I did nothing to harm you. All I wanted to do was coexist peacefully with my fellow creatures. There was only love in my heart and happy thoughts in my head. Now there is nothing. Do you think there's a heaven for rats made of paper?

I...

Forgive...

You.
Vile profanities and descriptions of horrific acts, all written in red, twist and writhe upon the skin of Impulse Control Rat. The creature says, "*****!" (Drivan: It sounds like the voice you heard muttering profanity, earlier.) The paper rodent leaps onto the boulder in front of it, then onto the ground adjacent to Finnian. And it bites!

[sblock=Actions]Move: from L6 to K6 to K5
Standard: Bite Finnian - v. AC (1d20+4=14, 1d6+2=8)[/sblock]

The creature savages Finnian's calf (8 damage).

Finnian feels an overwhelming, uncontrollable, all-consuming rage. He curses the stupidity of Erlai for attacking the old man's head instead of flying into his ear. The damned bird is an idiot! With a curse, Finnian swings the Sword of Five Elements at Erlai.

[sblock=Action]v. AC (1d20+6=15, 1d10+4=6)[/sblock]

The enchanted blade hits. Erlai squawks. Feathers fly. (6 damage)

Then the rage vanishes.

[sblock='KenHood']From what it sounds like, I believe I only gave combat advantage to the creature I killed; therefore, I shouldn't be giving combat advantage any more. I only question it because you have it up on the status block. [/sblock]

Finnian is surprised, but extremely pleased, that the blade rematerialized in time to hit the rat. But then his smug look turns to horror after the rage leaves him and he realizes the damage he has inflicted on Erlai.

Aieee! What have I done?! Finnian looks at the blade and then to the wound on his calf, confused about why he can't control himself or the enchanted weapon.

[sblock=Weldon]It was the rat's bite that did it, not the sword.[/sblock]

Round 1 Continued...
The rat swarm attacks Hadarai.

[sblock=Action]Aura-based Attack: v. AC (1d20+6-5=8, 1d6+3=9)[/sblock]
Hadarai beats back the creatures, but still experiences some minor damage (3 continuing damage).

OOC: Man! I can't roll for monkey poo. Rat swarm isn't Palindrome. You'd think the bad karma wouldn't apply.

Hadarai utters a few words, but nothing more than a unintelligible babble comes out of his mout: something like ******* halfling rats *** *****!
He then strides forward, getting on the side of the rat that has just bitten Finnian, and with a couple of well-placed swings, he pushes it right into Finnian's huge blade, twice.
With a grin, he finally manages to speak normally: Let's see if we can make some money out of this, at least!

[sblock=actions]minor:inspiring word on self, healing 8 hp(wtf); move to L6, drawing an Oa from the rat swarm. Commander's strike with Finnian vs Impulse control rat; with CA from flanking: 23 vs AC, 9 dmg(wtf again), non-lethal if weldon agrees; Spend an AP to do it again: 25 vs AC, 15 dmg;save vs dmg failed, save vs babble made[/sblock]

ooc:Weldon, I rolled for you with Commander's strike, I hope you don't mind. If you'd rather do yourself, I won't do so again. It was just to speed things up a bit. The rat should take 24 dmg, I suggest it is non-lethal. Let's try to capture and sell the impulse, memory and vocabulary rats to see if they're worth something.

[sblock=Hadarai]I need an Athletics or Acrobatics check (your choice) to spring up on the rocks and move to L6. If you fail it (against DC 10), your movement stops at G5.

You're moving through squares adjacent to the Impulse Control Rat, so it will get an opportunity attack.

You move from G5 to J5, then J5 to J6, and then J6 to L6.

---

Edited: 3:28 PM -- I'm hand-waving the Athletics or Acrobatics check. If you want to abort the flanking, let me know. I'll make changes to the narrative.[/sblock]

Round 1 continued...
Hadarai heroically abandons the wizards to the origami rat swarm! (Oooooh! Did the DM just go there?! Yes, he did!)

The rat swarm nips at him as he leaves, but his fleet feet take him out of harm's way.

[sblock=Action]Rat Swarm - Opportunity Attack v. AC (1d20+6-5=2, 1d6+3=7)[/sblock]
Forced into straight line movement by the odd physical laws of this realm, he stops in front of the Impulse Control Rat. As he turns at a strict 90-degree angle to his original heading and begins to leap, the wicked paper rodent, shouts, "Got you, *******!" The rat bites.

[sblock=Action]Impulse Control Rat - Opportunity Attack v. AC (1d20+4=21, 1d6+2=8)[/sblock]
The rat snags the Eladrin (8 damage).

Of a sudden, Hadarai recalls the fight with Cousin Eustace, when he created an excellent opening for Finnian, but the ranger wasted the opportunity on some measly attacks. His face twists into a horrible sneer and he yells, "Baklava oranges overtly!" Then, he whips out a blow with his longsword at Finnian.

[sblock=Action]Immediate - v. AC (Longsword) (1d20+6=19, 1d8+3=4)[/sblock]
The sword draws blood (4 damage).

In that instant, the rage vanishes, and Hadarai springs onto the boulder as he intended. It takes a second for him to realize what he has just done.

With inspirational grunts and pointing, Hadarai directs Finnian in two powerful attacks against the Impulse Control Rat.

In a mixture of hatred, anger, and pain, the creature howls a socially unacceptable suggestion for Hadarai and Finnian to express physical affection between themselves and a cactus.

---

The Memory Rat also stands upon its hind-legs and says, "Lacuna!"

Drivan, Emral, Vaunea, Erlai, and Finnian feel a wave of psychic force that sucks at the fundaments of their being.

[sblock=Action]Standard: Amnesia (Burst 2) - v. Will (Drivan, Emral, Vaunea, Erlai, and Finnian) (1d20+4=21, 1d6=6, 1d20+4=23, 1d6=3, 1d20+4=19, 1d6=2, 1d20+4=20, 1d6=1, 1d20+4=17, 1d6=2) Whoa![/sblock]
Drivan forgets all of his advanced spells. (You may not use encounter or daily powers until the end of your next turn.)

Emral forgets how to walk. (You are immobilized until the end of your next turn.)

Vaunea forgets how to fight. (No attacks (including opportunity attacks) until the end of your next turn.)

Erlai forgets his identity, his very bird-ness. He flutters to the ground and attempts to bark like a dog. (Stunned until the end of his next turn.)

Finnian forgets how to fight. (No attacks (including opportunity attacks) until the end of your next turn.)

---

Origami Rat 25 rushes up to Vaunea and bites.

[sblock=Actions]Move: D7 to H7.
Standard: Bite v. AC (1d20+6=13)[/sblock]
Vaunea hops out its way.

---

Origami Rat 12 moves towards Hadarai. Placing its fore-paws on the boulder, it snaps at the warlord's feet.

[sblock=Actions]Move: L8 to L7
Standard: Bite - v. AC (1d20+6=26) Critical Hit![/sblock]
The beast takes away a bit of boot, sock, and flesh. (3 damage)

ooc: Not sure if it's the best idea, but I'll keep my actions as they are. I wouldn't want to be in that psychic attack's area, and I don't like retconning anyway.
