TURTLEDOME!: Battle Bone (DM: KenHood, Judge: Lord S.)

[sblock=ooc]
Really? You want to give it back? Lol!
Well, mostly I wanted to avoid the groin punch if Eustace comes and tracks me down for NOT giving it back. :)

But yeah, Finnian agreed to borrow it and he is giving it back after the fight.

I'm totally fine with not taking gold at this point, but an enchantment could come in handy.

Also, totally ready to move on. I blew my RP wad the other day and I've got absolutely nothing to add to this scene.[/sblock]

It is time that we rest. says Hadarai seriously. He stands, then glances at Swillwort: I thank you for your kindness in rewarding us. I hope you will help us again should we decide to... re-equip ourselves. I'm confident this will be the start of a mutual collaboration. then, with another short bow, the Eladrin takes his shield and sword, and walks to the door.

OOC: Hmm. Haven't heard from fireinthedust in a while...

As everyone begins to say their goodbyes, Annie embraces Drivan and gives him a naughty squeeze. "Why don't you drop by for a visit, baby?" Then, she gives him a smooch. "Oh, you good looking man." She gives him a lascivious look and final caress.

"Annie!"

"Yessir!" she scurries away.

"Again, let me thank you for your help. If you need any assistance in the coming days, let me know," says Obadiah.

"Yes, and thank you, sir," says Marco, "For the wonderful cigars."

"Don't mention it."

After a few more pleasantries (which you may role-play if you wish), the party departs.

---

The party takes a carriage to the Scholar's Plaza.

From there, Marco leads you to a quaint shop at the base of a three story building. The sign above the shop says, "The Dusty Quill".

"There she is, my shop," says Marco, his voice suffused with pride. Despite the hunch on his back, he manages to stand a bit straighter. "I provide some of the best writing supplies and scribing services in the Transitive Isles."

As you get closer, you notice several signs posted in the windows of the shop. One says, "SOLD OUT: THE SCREAMER". Another, "NO FURTHER DEALINGS WITH SCREAMER" -- the ink shimmering and flickering in a most attention grabbing manner.

A pair of workmen put in several new sets of locks on the front door. They greet Marco in a manner that shows both affection and respect.

The interior of the shop is packed with bricabrac: quills, parchments, inks--mundane, exotic, and magical. Another workman replaces the front of glass case within the shop.

Marco looks at you with expectation. The desire for a positive response is obvious on his face.

As Annie scurries away Drivan summons up a mage hand that pinches her rear as she flounces away. He grins mischievously and then politely takes his leave, thanking Obadiah for his hospitality and his marvelous cigars.
------
Drivan looks with interest at the signs as they enter the shop. He wonders aloud "What's the screamer?"

He looks appreciatively over the many quills, inks, and scrolls. "We are definitely going to have a great business relationship Marco. You have a great shop here! You wouldn't happen to have any books here would you?"

After politely waiting for a response... he adds "I've always had a dream of running a small book store on the side... Maybe someday we'll have to go into business together."

[sblock=Formatting]Hey, if you use the square brackets [], that center command will work.[/sblock]

"The Screamer is an underground newspaper. I used to distribute the best copies, but once the murders started. I decided to get out of that business. Used to make good coin off it, too. I'm hoping that our advertising venture will draw in more custom to replace that which I've lost."

In response to Drivan's first question about books...
"Thank you!" Marco beams. "I have a few books in here." He wags a finger and grins with mischief. "Not many of the kind you're thinking about though. I do have a couple of tomes with rituals, but most are mundane texts, mostly treatises of a scholarly nature. However, I do have many inks and parchments that serve for preparation of scrolls and such. I even had a potent magical quill, The Phoenix Catchment, though a thief broke in a few days ago and stole it. In broad daylight! I'm sure Mr. Doddoddod will bring that scalliwag to justice."

In response to Drivan's comments about opening a store...
"Yes! That would be delightful!"

[sblock=Formatting]Thanks, stupid error on my part;)[/sblock]

At Marco's comments regarding the rumors Drivan's eyebrows raise, "What murders are those? And how do they relate to the newspaper?"

Hearing about the thief Drivan looks even more surprised, "Perhaps we could help return your quill as well? I can't believe that a thief would break in here in broad daylight... and there were no witnesses?"

"I have a few books in my collection already, so perhaps after things have calmed down I'll have to bring some by and you can take a look at them. I look forward to doing business with you, Marco!"

[sblock=for those who don't know]marco is actually a crossover character from another L4W adventure, of which Palindrome, Ken's firts PC, is one of the protagonists.
The signs refer to events happened there (in The Closed Eye), so I doubt they ought to be considered hooks. just to let you know...[/sblock]

Finnian enters the door as Erlai swoops to the top of the roof. He walks around the shop, taking in all the various papers, parchments, quills, and so on. He stops and picks up what appears to be an ink blotter and turns it over and over, clearly puzzled as to what this might be.

As he comes back around to where Marco is standing, he slaps him on the back and laughs, Quite a place here, Marsho. Quite a place! Too bad about the break in. Surely the town guard will help?

Finnian holds at the halfling's side and fidgets a little uncomfortably. When the other characters turn to look at the items around the shop, he drops his voice and leans in close to Marco.

Uhhh, seeing as you have all this stuff for writing... uhhh, do you think you could teach me a little?

[sblock=I didn't know]I was getting all geared up for another side story in helping Marco retrieve his magic quill :)[/sblock]

"I'm not quite sure. Mr. Doddoddod's employees have the details. Somehow, Mr. D'Rawth is involved. I'm staying well out of it."

Hearing about the thief Drivan looks even more surprised, "Perhaps we could help return your quill as well? I can't believe that a thief would break in here in broad daylight... and there were no witnesses?"
"I wouldn't mind the help, but I don't know how effective you could be. Mr. Doddoddod has all the evidence I was able to retrieve--just some blood really. It's been a couple of days, and I've already cleaned, so I don't think there's any more clues available."

"I was the witness to the theft! It's just that I can't...can't seem to recall the thief's appearance. I looked him...her...it in the face! And I can't remember! It's a horrible feeling. A violation."
Marco shivers. "My family could have been injured."

He grows quiet for a moment.

"I have a few books in my collection already, so perhaps after things have calmed down I'll have to bring some by and you can take a look at them. I look forward to doing business with you, Marco!"
At your words, he brightens.

"Certainly! One of the services provided by the Dusty Quill is transcription. We could easily make copies for sale or dissemination."

As he comes back around to where Marco is standing, he slaps him on the back and laughs, Quite a place here, Marsho. Quite a place! Too bad about the break in. Surely the town guard will help?
"Town guard?! *Pfft!* The town guard is like a cracked walking stick. When you put your weight upon it, it snap, jamming its sharp point into your side."

Uhhh, seeing as you have all this stuff for writing... uhhh, do you think you could teach me a little?
"Certainly, Funyon, I'd be more than happy to do so," he chuckles and gives Finnian's hand a pat.

---

Marco shuffles forward and raises his arms to take in the whole of the shop. "Downstairs, we have storage, the scrivener's hall, and my uncle's workroom. He's a bit of an alchemist and mixes many of our custom inks. He's the one who shall provide healing potions for your party."

"Upstairs, on the top two stories, is where my family lives. You wait here while I go upstairs and tell my wife that we shall have guests for dinner."

He gestures for you wait. Then, he hobbles up the steps.

Yes, though I don't think my PC can be considered a protagonist.

You can investigate the theft and murders, if you wish. ;)

Though it will lead to some unfortunate locations, since my character falsified the evidence related to the theft.[/sblock]
