TV - Doctor Who SE04 EP06: The Doctors Daughter (spoilers)

Actually, I sagree. It seems now that Donna is here, the Doctor is always wrong all of the time, and she puts him right every time. How he managed for 900 years before meeting her, goodnes only knows.
I'm kind of ambivalent. OTOH, I'd sure like companions to be more than a Dr. Watson--i.e. a character contrived solely for convenient exposition. This is why Martha was a great companion, because the field of practical medicine seemed to be one of the few technical skills he doesn't seem to evidence very often. My favorite companions all contributed something: Leela's fighting skills, K-9's nose-beam, Ace's bombs, Peri's cleavage. ;)

OTOH, Donna is insufferable. She's not the Sarah Jane of our time. Sarah had charm and wit, while Donna is simply overbearing. It's not very satisfying to give one character a much-deserved come-uppance if the come-upper needs to be come-upped as well! I thought Martha was coming back, and Donna was going to be a placeholder?

Btw, Morrus, glad to see ENWorld back on its feet. I was jonesing!

On this point you and I are in complete agreement.

The sanctimony has become rather thick of late.
It has been rather thick, yes. Still, one of the reasons I like the Tenth Doctor so much is because of his moral assertiveness. Yet recently it seems as if he's hell bent on getting huffy over those who don't follow his moral code. So it was a nice scene to see him at a loss for words when Jenny asks him: how are they different?

He's survived because he's had a ton of people before Donna who've put him right as you say. ;)

Actually, I like it that Donna is somewhat insufferable. As I said before, while I like the Tenth Doctor for his compassion and his assertiveness, he can be an obnoxious berk on occasion. So it's great to see him interact with a companion who can be as obnoxious as he is.

What's really annoying about the whole "anti-gun, anti-soldier" attitude is that the Doctor does have a gun. The bullets it fires just kill a thousand people each shot, instead of one.

Eh?

My main gripe with the episiode is that it felt like a backdoor pilot---and man oh man do I hate those things. Can the Whoniverse survive another spinoff?
Sure seemed like a backdoor pilot to me, too.

What I didn't quite follow was once Jenny died, what exactly stopped the doctor from going and putting his arm in the machine again? Or, say, 20 times? Or 200?

Why would he do that?

If he's distraught about her death, that is. There are an infinite number of Jenny's available, in theory. That's all I'm saying.

How would a new one stop him being upset about the old one?

Besides, he's not exactly thrilled abuot the idea of clone people based on his DNA running around. Hardly the mindset of someone who'd be likely to do it by choice.
