I bet they're like the Sneeches!

[JPL hangs his head in shameful ignorance]

Does anyone know what the actual street date is for this puppy? Next week, I'd imagine...

I love them Realms. I love the regional prestige classes and the endless options for character backgrounds. And I love the fact that they made all the bad guys more badder for Third Edition.

Oops, I got the spelling wrong.

They botched their link to the race chart, it leads to the same thumbnail. Fortunately, my l33t skillz have unlocked the correct adress:

Star elves... No comment.
Gnoll: No comment either, we already knew what a gnoll look like.
Taer: I prefer their Tome of Horrors illo. This one is pot-bellied.
Volodni: I like their look.
Spirit-folk: The elves of OA are inserted in the land of the countless real elves.
Hagspawn: Eugh. At least Creature Collection 2's haglings are cute.

It appears the "censored" race is indeed these star elves... They hidden it in the Race chapter when they gave the ToC of UE, but they forgot to hide it in the Region chapter... (This reminds me of the Living City Guidelines, before the FRCS was published, they wanted so badly to hide the return of Bane that they did a "search & replace" of Bane to Xvim in the file... So we had this domain with a first-level spell named, xvim...)

Hmmm....

Well, Eric, it's about time D&D looked beyond Tolkein/Lieber/Howard for inspiration.

Upon further investigation...May 9. Perhaps that is for the best...X2 is probably going to take a lot out of me next week...

{Edit} Thanks for the pic fix. Very nice. I don't recognize most of these critters, though. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Ah, the land of Minsc. I wonder if they have a section on space hampsters?

The other FR books in softcover look, feel, and smell so nice, it's a shame this is a a hard cover. I'd still have paid the $30 for it ( maybe even more)
Looking at the table of contents, does anyone else think it's wierd that chapter 2 is about prestige classes? Shouldn't we read about the lands, culture and other things about the life in the east before we get to the PrC's? If we read about the PrC's first we won't be able to see where it gets it's identity. D&D books have had this problem for the last 29 years.

I think another set of elves is a pain. I can't even really keep track of all the ones we have now, especially since sometimes they go by their "color" name. However, I like Avariel as they are something "different", lend powers that most elves dont have (flying mostly, but some good stats) and are therefore a better foil for drow.

I'm really looking forward to the gnoll and taer, as I just picked up a bunch of gnoll in the chainmail sale.

Spiritfolk seem unnecessary. Aren't there enough races as it is? Also kinda irks me that these races didn't appear in the recent "Races of Faerun" which you'd think would be a shoe-in for...well all the races of faerun.
