Unbalanced: Dodge feat just +1 to ac?

Well, previously, I've viewed dodge as a useless feat that you're forced to take if you want the stuff further down in the feat chain.

By changing it to +1/all instead of +1/specific, it streamlines both the gameplay, and makes it less than entirely useless, although still less than stunning.

You can simply let the character decide the opponent against which the dodge bonus works at any time and not only during his turn (that is what I do: easier to remember; it usually goes to the first creature that attacks the PC).
In this way it becomes a little stronger and, in case the PCs are not outnumbered it is basically the same as giving a flat +1.

try rewording Dodge to say this:

When determining your AC, treat your dexterity score as being two points higher than its actual vaule. Any armor you wear still imposes its Max Dex bonus as normal.

The Dusk version of Dodge (if anyone cares)

Dodge [Fighter]
You are adept at dodging blows.

Prerequisite: DEX 13+

Benefit: During your action, you designate an opponent and receive a +1 dodge bonus to Armor Class against attacks from that opponent. You can select a new opponent at any time you could take a 5’ step. If you are fighting defensively the +1 dodge bonus applies to all foes fighting you, though you still must select one opponent for any feat for which dodge is a prerequisite. If you go on total defense you gain a +2 dodge bonus to your Armor Class against all opponents instead of a +1. Remember that dodge bonuses stack and any condition that causes you to lose your dexterity adjustment to armor class also causes the loss of dodge bonuses.

Note: Dodge is considered one of the weaker feats in the game though it is the prerequisite of many prestige classes and more powerful feats so making it a powerful feat could unbalance the game. The above change makes the dodge feat somewhat more useful, particularly when the character only desires to avoid getting hit. Other feats are included in this chapter that make the chosen opponent feature of the feat more significant.

Some of those other feats are...

Sidestep [Fighter]
You know how to avoid brazen, wild attacks.

Prerequisite: DEX 13+, Dodge, Mobility

Benefit: Whenever the opponent who you’ve selected to receive a +1 dodge bonus to your AC against takes an attack option that provokes an attack of opportunity (q.v. bull rush) you may forgo the attack of opportunity and take a 5' step. If you do you have a +20 dodge bonus to your AC against that attack. An opponent who attempted a bull rush and misses moves into the square behind your previous position or strikes the wall if there was a wall behind you unless they succeed at a reflex save higher than their own attack roll. (If they fail and move off a cliff edge, that’s their problem).

Combo Breaker[Fighter]
You can interrupt your opponent’s attack sequences.

Prerequisite: Dodge, Expertise, Combat Reflexes, Sidestep, Base Attack Bonus +10
Benefit: You can ready an action to break up the attack sequence of the foe that you chose to receive your +1 dodge bonus to AC against. After that foe makes his first attack, you get to attack. If your attack hits then any subsequent attacks he was entitled to are lost. You may attack this foe in response even if he didn’t hit you. If you successful then even the additional attacks allowed by other feats and class abilities, such as flurry of blows or cleave are lost.

Guarded Flank[Fighter]
You’ve learned that some foes are particularly dangerous unless watched.

Prerequisite: Dodge, Expertise
Benefit: The foe you chose to receive a +1 dodge bonus to your AC against cannot get sneak attacks against you for flanking unless their level exceeds yours by 4. That opponent also does not get a +2 bonus to hit for flanking you, though other opponents who flank you do.
Normal: Any character that can flank you can get sneak attacks against you if they have that ability.

Slippery Customer[General]
You are difficult to grapple.

Prerequisite: Dodge, Mobility, 8 ranks Escape Artist
Benefit: Whenever the foe who you chose to receive your +1 AC bonus against attempts to start a grapple you may choose to oppose their attack roll with an escape artist check. If you win the opposed check their attack misses.
