Seriously. I don’t trust my own judgment that absolutely, let alone anyone else’s. I look for trust and respect as foundations for working things out. And if I see general, larger-context attitudes I like, I’m willing to work on it over time in play.

This is excellently put. I’m nowhere near so self absorbed that I would possibly think that my judgment is so spot on that what I say should always go.

Gaming is much, much better when everyone at the table is equally responsible for the good times of everyone at the table.

I am Chaotic Evil, and I play a lot of Chaotic Evil (or Chaotic "Neutral") characters because that's... where I'm most comfortable. I like to play Bards and other healers because... well, I like the fantasy of having power over life and death, and using that power to keep the other PCs alive makes them more willing to put up with my BS.

In real life, my friends know who they are and they know how far they can trust me and that's why they're willing to stick their necks out for me. If I had any enemies, they would know who I was and what they could trust me to do and they wouldn't go to sleep while I was nearby. That's another reason my friends keep me around.

Evil doesn't have to mean backstabbing. You can be plenty Evil only stabbing people in the face.

I'm not sure that we should lump video games and movies together like that, but you're right: I wouldn't pay $10 for a movie ticket either. I'm far more likely to stream movies a year or two after they're released...or for movies that I absolutely must watch in theaters, I'll wait a few months and catch them at the smaller "dollar movie" theater downtown.

Also it's weird to break entertainment down into price-per-hour like that, but it helps argue my point. If you spent $60 on a video game that I spent $15 on, and we both get the same 200 hours of entertainment...I'm getting quadruple the value. The timeline has to count for something, because not everyone is willing to wait years to play a game/watch a movie. And does waiting that long diminish the entertainment value? I'm sure it does for some people. But I'm a weirdo.

It's not like I'm sitting here with nothing to do until I break down and buy the New Whatever; I've got a backlog of New Whatevers from 2017 that I'm still getting through.
I just finished viewing Game of Thrones, Season 8 last night. I can wait for anything until I am ready. I usually like to wait at least a year so all the hoopla is gone and I forget what the subject matter is about, this includes games where there are sales end if year or special promotions. There are only a few titles that are a must have or must see for me, but I rarely purchase video games at full prices anymore, though I am a sucker for collectable swag packages.

Since I spotted vidyagame talk, here's a classic unpopular opinion: I want shorter games with worse graphics that are made by people who are paid more to work less.

Aside from the working conditions, graphical fidelity is in itself, bad for videogames. From the obvious: now, because everything is so detailed devs must make all the important things glow or flash or be pointed at by an arrow. DooM and Quake and Morrowind just didn't have extraneous clutter, so everything you see on screen is important, Horizon must paint the world yellow for it to make a slightest sliver of sense.

Deeper, the more real your game looks the more real it must feel. When Doomguy bumps against the wall, grunts and door opens, who cares? If Arthur Morgan would do the same it'll feel jarring. That's why there's a buttload of slow animations that make me want to kill myself in RDR2. It affects gameplay!

And the thing I care the most about: graphical advancements require more and more work from the artist, which makes modding out of grasp for the community. Anyone with a couple evenings and mediocre modelling skills can create custom assets for Warcraft 3 or Morrowind and make'em look like they are part of the original game. Out of the question with a modern game.

Hole's Live Through This is better than anything Nirvana put out.

I gave you a like, but I disagree with the statement only in that it's not true.

Live Through This is as good as anything Nirvana put out.

I would rather have had Divinity: Original Sin 3 than Baldur's Gate 3. I'm kinda uninterested in the latter.

Considering the likes that SHE had on HER post, if anyone will burned at the stake, it may end up being you. With that in mind, are you sure you want us to gather wood? ;)
Definitely. The serfs do not choose who gets tied to a post, and who holds the torch. :D
