Update -- Gaming wives, the ongoing saga!

It won't do any good, Henry. It's not the dice, it's the person who throws them! :)

BTW, sounds like you've got quite the homebrew there. Half-St. Bernard's huh?

With all the discussion around this (and the odd coincidence of so many wives all jumping in at the same time) I'll have to post some kind of update after my wife's first game on Saturday.

I did it the easy way*...I married a woman who was already a gamer. :D Much less hassle converting them.

I met my first wife gaming. Let's just say that I have learned that there are more important things in a life companion than being a prepacked gamer. Y'know, little things like honesty, humility, compassion, sanity, etc.

Ouch! Although I have to agree. My wife and I do great together, even though we have very, very few hobbies in common. But that's why I'm quite excited to actually see her game this weekend!

Yeah, but she's too big to stuff into my dicebag... :)

She's a lover of all things canine. I figured, add a +2 to STR, -2 to INT and CHA, trash the darkvision, and give her a +2 to listen checks. All set! What's a first-time gamer to know?

Interesting. I'd have also added the MM Scent feat, myself, I think. And maybe a -2 on all vision checks. Does she see in black and white? :)

So, was that just a one-time gig, or are you actually homebrewing something with this?

Update

Well, we played the game. The party had 2 clerics, a fighter, and a rogue. I switched to running NeMoren's vault first because I figured that two clerics would let them deal with the undead better that a more traditional party.

Funny thing, once they ran into the undead, they decided AGAINST turning them. (shrug)

Overall, she grasped things fairly quickly. She said the group was too large, though -- even though this is the smallest group I've run in recent memory.

Thanks for keeping us updated... Did she enjoy herself? Will she play again?

My wife started gaming about a year ago. I had always assumed that she didn't want to play, until she pointed out that I had never invited her.

Before you know it, she was into it more than I was. Maybe her Harry Potter fascination should have tipped me off. Then two of the players in the group decided they didn't like her (this happened in the last two weeks). So now we looking for another group.

Now don't think this is bad. I would not trade the pleasure I had gaming with her for anything and watching her have fun gave me more enjoyment. I look forward to find another group.

It has been great for us to share this hobby. We may even go to the next Con in Denver.

She even subscribes to Playboy for me. My wife is so cool.
