using a weapon 1 handed vs. 2 handed

I seem to be missing the part in the PHB where it addresses when you use a weapon holding it with 2 hands if you get extra damage because of that fact? In regular d20 if you wield a melee weapon 2 handed you get Str bonus x 2 added as a modifier. In 4e I'm not sure. Also, I am not sure if this would apply only to 2h weapons or to 1h as well.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

Versatile weapons used two-handed get +1 damage. You do not get extra damage from your Str bonus when wielding a weapon two-handed.

So one thing on this subject that came up last session. Someone with a bastard sword using it two-handed does more damage than someone with a greatsword (who is forced to use it two-handed?). I mean it isn't really a balance issue because you have to pay extra for that bastard sword, but a bastard sword is smaller than a greatsword! Wheres that extra damage coming from?

Swinging speed?

I honestly think the greatsword needs a boost somehow, just because it's not worth using with the bastard sword around for a feat and even less worth using when you consider how nicer axes and hammers are.

I'm really hoping for more heavyblade feats that are as good as scimitar dance in the books to come.

It's not the size that counts, it's how you use it!
