Veronica Mars - Season 2 Premiere Tonight [Spoilers]

I think more just happened in that one hour than the last several seasons of some TV shows.

Put the one SPOILERS in the title so we can start trying to figure this one out. Although maybe we shouldn't even try till next week.

I REALLY hope Alyson Hannigans new comedy tanks so she can come play with Charisma.
(Read into that line whatever you want.)

Dick and the Beav as regular characters? Does the chick who played Mac think she's a movie star now? Disappointing that she didn't become a regular.

I have no idea where theyre going with mayor Steve Guttenberg and the "baseball player". That just seemed out of left field. Heh. I'm funny.

The show seemed to add some more comedy, some more obscure references, some more sexy, and some more action. My only problem with last season was the inconsistent attention to the supporting cast. That doesn't look to be a problem this season. They seem to be trying their best to balance everything a show needs and have already raised the ante.

Someone finally sat down to watch the Whedon shows and took enough notes to make TV the right way.

The girl that played Mac tecnically is a movie star already. She made a number of movies when she was younger. Waterworld and Andre are two movies that come to mind.

Meh. Anyone who has a functioning mainstream brain cell for TV programming suit job would watch any Dick Wolf, Jerry Bruckheimer, or JJ Abrams shows and take note.

I would rather they, uh, be a tad more original. We already have 4 Law and Orders, we dont need 20 more. As great as any of those series may be.

Veronica Mars is unique because its a GOOD drama poking its head from beneath the cloak of reality TV. What we need are more unique shows that create NEW conventions and use NEW ideas to tell their stories. Not 20 clones of the same new idea. That only makes the new idea old, and fast.

No crap. My friend and I were watching this, and when fast forwarding through the first commercial break, we were like "holy jeebus, it feels like we should already be halfway through if not more!"

I REALLY hope Alyson Hannigans new comedy tanks so she can come play with Charisma. (Read into that line whatever you want.)

Read an interview with Rob Thomas who said that he's really hoping to make that happen. Alyson is already planning to come back for at least one episode, where her character directs the school play.

Dick and the Beav as regular characters?

Yeah, I found that kind of odd myself.

Does the chick who played Mac think she's a movie star now? Disappointing that she didn't become a regular.

She may not have been asked, or they may not have had enough money in the budget to make her a titled character. Doesn't mean she won't be a regular guest star, though. Lorne and Tara were regulars on their respective shows (Angel and Buffy) and neither was shoehorned into the opening credits until their last episodes (money issues, as I understand it). Seems to me the situation was much the same for at least a couple of Veronica Mars characters last season (Francis Capra was one; I think the other was Jason Dohring). They weren't able to get them into the opening credits until after Sidney Poitier's leaving the show (again, money issues).

I have no idea where theyre going with mayor Steve Guttenberg and the "baseball player". That just seemed out of left field. Heh. I'm funny.

Yeah, you really slid that one home.

Anyway, I agree it seemed really random, but I believe it is the "big" mystery. Guttenberg is running for mayor, and his daughter was supposed to be on that bus. Ding, ding!

I'm forced to agree. The plot just all came together in the last 15 minutes and it was very crafty and entertaining without being sneaky or contrived. Wow.

Done. *thumbs up*

She can still guest-star from time to time. I'd be okay with that.

Looks like it. That caught my eye as well. We'll see in the coming weeks if they continue to get consistant screen time.

*rimshot*

I'm sure it will link back to the drug-test failure stuff down the line but who knows...

Agreed. The characters do feel a bit more comfy. My favorite scene (which I didn't expect it to be)? The conversation outside the gas station with Veronica and Weevil. You just knew he was going to come back for her. Really liked that part. I think it speaks alot to how strong many of the characters are that now they can start making little twists in the establishment. It was almost like the reset button was hit and now we're in line for an even better season. Veronica and Duncan are together, Logan is reviled again, Weevil's got issues and now there has been another murder with seemingly large layers.

Hmmm, maybe that's why Dick and Beav are in the titles now - it was Dick who had the limo arranged and he's never been a good guy. But it almost always ends up being the grown-ups who make the biggest blunders in this show. Interesting.

Yup. And as anyone who watched the teaser knows -
it's Kevin Smith endorsed as well. Cameo next week it looks like.

Meh. VM is nothing more than a revival of Nancy Drew mixed up with the usual teen angst of previous teen angst shows of the last 10 years. Hardly original, just a new spin on already used premises.

EXACTLY.

VM is good because most everything else on "free" TV is garbage. the bottomline if john/jane Q public wanted more intelligent programming I'd be out there instead we get CSI: BEVERLY HILLS and LAW & ORDER: EVIDENCE LOCKER. I've watched a few episodes of VM and it's decent, I plan on picking up the 1st Season when it comes out so I can make a better judgment but right now decent but average.

addendum

and Futurama instead of more Family Guy.

Anyway, I think this is my favorite episode of any show I've seen so far this season and I've been addicted to Prison Break.

Thats true, in fact, I was going to compare it to Nancy Drew but decided not too. But its still unique today, or it was last season.
