Warhammer: Chaos in the old world

Check this out.

Fantasy Flight Games [Chaos in the Old World] - Leading publisher of board, card, and roleplaying games.

I swear it is the best 4 players game I have ever played. It's even better than Battlestar Galactica for 4 players (Though BSG still rules all when played with 5 players).

This is a game about playing an evil god and trying to ruin the old world better and faster than your rivals. Very cool. All four evil gods are from warhammer mythology with a 4 horsemem of the apocalypse vibe and what is fascinating is that they all have very different attributes. They all have different strenghts yet the game is incedibly balanced (though it might not looked that way if you don't fully grasp how to best use your god).

It has combat, backstabbing and deep strategy, all within a reasonable game duration (about one hour, I'd say). It's incredibly fun and engaging.

Watched it for a short time being played last year at Gen-Con. It didn't grab my fancy in the little amount of time I saw it...and I am a pretty good GW fluff junkie.

I saw at my FLGS the other day they now have a Horus Heresy game out...but I have yet to do the groundwork to see if its something I wanna pick up. Board Games are getting pretty ridiculously price nowadays.

It's a fun game. Mind you, if it's the best 4-player boardgame you've ever played, you need to play more boardgames. :)

Cheers!

hmm, I have played my share of boardgames... and I would rank it fairly high, too ;)

Love this game, though I can not recommend playing it while drinking... we tried that once... was kind of a foggy experience :D ... I think Slanesh won that one... which is kind of fitting...

Oh, no doubt that it should be ranked highly. It is an excellent game.

It's interesting to look at the 4-player games I rate higher than it... (those are games I think are best with 4).

* Talisman
* Middle Earth Quest
* Agricola
* Macao
* Wars of the Roses
* Dungeon Lords
* In the Year of the Dragon
* Brass
* Galaxy Trucker

Of course, not much in the way of big theme games there; it's not that I don't like them, it's just that they often require such a big time commitment they don't hit the table (alas!).

Cheers!

Hey "Mal"!

Happy to know you loved our last boardgame day together!

I'd love to crush your Slanesh devotees again before the birth of my kid!

Hmmm, let's prepare something in august or september...

BACK TO OP:

MerricB, you've got some great suggestions, as Mal and I played Middle Earth Quest together. I know Mal doesn't like Talisman (yes, his soul might be rotten).

Mal, YOU'VE GOT to try Space Alert (I've got it, just call me!), it's pandemic on caffeine.

I missed an opportunity to play this game when it hit the table and since then I've not seen it so somebody either didn't like it or it was too long for the coffee shop's ~3 hour time span. We usually like to get more than 1 game in.
