Warrior Strategy Guide

Joe Kushner was kind enough to mail me a copy of this and it arrived recently. The cover doesn't look as good in print as it did on my screen but that's not why I'm here.

A nice aspect of the book was the multiclass builds. This is close to something I've been thinking of doing and it was useful to see how someone else handled it. Does anyone know of any other books or PDFs that suggest multiclass strategies?

Dragon Magazine ran a few articles like this with a breakdown of level and pros and cons.

Heroes of High Favor talks about this, but doesn't give the class break down.

Quintessential II series does this I believe.

It's not really suggesting strategies, but the Heroes of High Favor race books from Badaxe Games featured a number of PrCs built around multiclassed characters where one of the classes was the favored one for the race. So the dwarf book, for example, features ten PrCs, each based on fighter multiclassed with one of the other PHB classes.

What I'm thinking of is a series of PDFs for different PrCs. Each would detail three or so different paths a character could take to get to -- and work through -- a specific PrC. It would also include suggested feats and new feat chains designed to work with the PrC. At times, short PrCs designed to augment an existing PrC concept would also be included.

In thinking it over, the Star Wars Hero's Guide had a nice set of archetypes -- multiclass suggestions that also included variant class features.

Thanks for the input, guys. I didn't even think of HoHF (and the books are right near me).

Such a series would be helpful, especially if aimed at new players.

One of the things I liked about the Fable guidebook/cluebook, is that it showed you how to acheive certain abilities or styles using different weapons and magic combos.

Some of the PrCs follow a certain path like the Arcane Archer. Obviously you have to have some archery ability... others like the Eldritch Knight could have one that specializes in augmenting himself and his fighting powers or one that specializes in killing other spellcasters or one that acts as a party buff specilaist and all around survivalist.

I gotta chime in... the first time I saw multiclass combos, I thought them interesting. Nowadays, I find them nearly valueless.

The only way I consider them useful is if they are accompanied by full NPC statistics for levels 1-20.

I found them useless filler in Dragon, i'll not buy them as pdf, but i might not be the target audience. Can someone explain their attraction or use?

That would make them extremely useful.

The Quintessential II line does include multiclass build tables in each of their books. This section includes:

A context for the multiclass
The strengths the multiclass provides over single class
The weakness the multiclass provides over single class
Recommendations to make the multiclass character work better
Variant rules (3 options) that can be made to cushion the multiclass weaknesses
