Okay, check this out. My DM and I (we co-DM, actually) have decided to unleash a one-year (real time, that is) Greyhawk/Planescape/Ravenloft crossover campaign on our players. It's going to be very, very sweet. The cool part (in our opinion, at least) is that it's gonna be RETRO. Meaning an OOP version of D&D. Our players are totally cool with that...their attitude is, "Run it. We shall come."

We've narrowed down our choices to TWO options: (1) AD&D 2e (without any of the Player's Option nonsense) or (2) Rules Cyclopedia D&D.

Honestly, we are TORN between these two. So we've decided to put it to a referendum here on enworld. YOU folks will decide for us.

Four points:
1. We both LOVE RC D&D and AD&D 2e, and so do our players. So to follow-up to this post saying something like, "Dude, those versions SUXXORS1! Play 3.5!" won't be very helpful. :)
2. The fact that we're using 2e campaign settings should *not* be a factor in your vote. If we use RC D&D, conversion is easy, especially for creative, fast-and-loose DMs like us. ;)
3. Please only vote if you sincerely have a preference yourself. If you hate all OOP versions of the game, don't vote. Please. And if you think, "I guess I'll vote for RC D&D, 'cuz AD&D 2e SUXXORS1!" then please don't vote. Vote out of love, or at least respect, for one of the two versions of the game.
4. It is presently 9:45 pm, Pacific Standard Time. This poll will close in 24 hours. ;)

Vote away. YOUR DECISION WILL BE BINDING ON OUR GROUP. ;) ;) ;)

Rules Cyclopedia for me. Why? I like those rules better than 2nd Ed AD&D personally. If I was going to play D&D but not 3.5, old D&D (Basic boxed set or Cyclopedia) would be the way to go. I actually wouldn't even touch 2nd Ed AD&D, I just don't enjoy playing those rules. OD&D is what "classic D&D" is too me, maybe it's just nostolgia but I just enjoyed those rules more.

Nice, simple, basic (h0-h0) D&D for me please ;)

The Rules Cyclopedia -- oh yeah, baby!

It is the best version of the game to date, IMO, for "fun-focused", fast paced games.

Gosh, I wish I was in your group, if you go the RC route. :D

(And if you do go this route, you may want to check out the OD&Dities website, which has lots of great material for B/X/RC D&D -- including an article on creating "customized character classes" for RC D&D in issue 7 IIRC.)

the three booklet set... you can't go wrong with the Original.

Assuming he already has it! Otherwise, he might have to shell out hundreds of dollars, and hope that he can find it on eBay.
