What am I watching on TV today? (Dec 2006)

So, what am I watching on tv today? Here's my answer...

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
Great season so far! I have not watched the season finale' yet, but I am loving almost all of it so far (the boxing episode stunk). The funny thing is that I HATED season 1 and Season 2. It wasn't until Season 2a that I really started liking it (when they found the Pegasus). Personally, I think they should have spent the entire season on New Caprica -- that went by way too fast. Still, the rescue from New Caprica is my favorite so far. Lots of emotion and sci-fi action!

AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL
I can't believe Caridee won. Sure she had a natural look, but Melrose gave far more effort. Not to mention Caridee had that really stupid "John Kerry" moment and told a really terrible joke. Augh. Why does this show mock me?

DR. WHO
You know, I was always lukewarm to Christopher Eccleston's new doctor last season. I grew up with the legendary Tom Baker, and liked Sylvester McCoy (but didn't watch too many of those episodes). I even liked Paul McGann in the Dr. Who television movie (quite a bit actually). But Eccleston was just a little too wonky for me - The black leather jacket and the just odd playfulness. That being said, I am loving the current doctor, David Tenant. I think he is just fantastic as he adds just the right charm that and personality that Eccleston was missing. Of course we can't forget Rose, who's hot hot hot! The only thing I dislike is all the mention of "torchwood", which often feels forced. I realize that this is probably leading to a big "torchwood" finale, but I wish they wouldn't force feed it to us. Still, this season is great so far, and I can't wait to see how it all ends. It's too bad Rose is leaving though...

HOUSE M.D.
I really haven't cared for this season so far. The latest antagonist, the prosecutor, is genuinely unlikeable, which is a good thing, but seeing him screw everyone over is getting tiresome. I am unsure where they are going with it all, but I hope this meta plot ends soon because it is just distracting. It doesn't look like its jumping the shark anytime soon though.

HEROES
Man I am so sick of this show. I am tired of the introduction of new plot lines and lack of resolution of old ones. The split-personality-chick is so incredibly uninteresting, and even the Hiro plot is getting tiresome. I don't mind all the bad and overused plot devices, but I have serious problems with the lack of plot development; hmmm, maybe it's the overuse of plot development? Regardless, the last episode was interesting yet problematic at the same time. The human "bomb" plot came literally out of nowhere, and was so incredibly forced. What a bunch of crap. I've started to read the detailed summary on wiki, because I am curious to see where it is going, but I have no desire to waste an hour watching it on tv (my wife, however, absolutely loves it). It is really really close to jumping the shark for me.

RACHEL RAY
My wife insists on recording this every day and watching it, and it totally bugs me. Her voice is like a knife that cuts through my heart. And while I liked her on "30 minute meals", I find her current daily show pretty lame. She darkened her hair and now wears conservative and dark cloths. It's a pretty drastic change visually. And I swear her voice has gotten even raspier. *shudder*

ROBOT CHICKEN
I have only seen two episodes of this whacky show, and I loved them both. There are some truly messed up parodies going here, and I am glad it is on after midnight. Still, it's fairly well written and animated. I hope to see more in the future.

LATE LATE SHOW with CRAIG FURGESON
This is probably my favorite show right now. Craig is just so bloody funny - his monologues are fantastic. The rest of his show can be somewhat hit + miss though, mostly because some of his guests are lame. But the man is funny. Way better than the lame David Letterman or annoying Jay Lenno (Conan O'Brian is still good though). If you haven't watched it yet, I recommend that you do.

I'm kind of curious where it all goes. I think they needed to mix up the formula a bit. After all, an episodic drama where the only question is how many times House gets it wrong before he finally gets it right, week after week after week, will eventually get old. So the question that they seem to be asking is: Can this character be saved?

My problem: If the answer is no, the show ends with an ignominious crash and burn. If the answer is yes, there's a serious risk that it could lose its edge.

Looks like the "prosecutor's" last episode is the next new one (in January). Which means this storyline is coming to a close, thank God.

On the other hand, I like that actor (wasn't he in "St. Elswehere," like, a thousand years ago?). So I'll be a bit sorry to see him leave. And then the question will become, "what next."

Be curious how they tie it all up.

Stuff Mr. Beef is watching.

I'm not watching all that much television right now because I don't have cable or satellite where I'm house sitting, but when I get to go home and watch some television here's what I watch.

Dr. Who
I like rose as his assistant because it's about time he had someone that was attractive and had a sense of wonder about it all. I really do not like this new Doctor though (the one airing on the Sci-Fi channel.) he's just trying too hard to play cute and nice. I liked the previous Doctor that aired last season on Sci-Fi and is currently aired on BBC America. He seems way more Doctor like than any of the ones I've seen recently. His speech to Rose in his regeneration scene at the end of the season drove me to tears.

House M.D.
I have a like for Medical Shows ever since ER, but seeing how ER has lost every character that I liked (Dr. Mark Greene is a personal hero of mine) I have moved on. House is a show that keeps me watching simply because it has a smaller cast and they can focus on plot devlopment as well as character interaction. I also like seeing the disease of the week. I'm like, why can it not be something simple like Rickets or Scurvy? It's got to be something that takes a long time to diagnose and requires tests, an MRI scan or both. Hugh Laurie's American accent is so good it fooled me the first time I heard it. When you go to the Fox web site or see him interviewed he speaks with a British accent.

Scrubs
I like this show for one reason, it makes me laugh. They have done so much with a stuffed (Taxidermied) dog that it makes me want to have one of my dogs stuffed when he has to move on to the next plane. With supporting characters like The Todd and Dr. Kelso to be there just for comic relief just makes the show better. If you don't believe me that Scrubs is funny just go to youtube.com and search for Scrubs. When I'm feeling down all I have to do is watch Scrubs and I feel much better after half an hour.

1 vs 100
I know this is game show, and most of the game shows out there these days are designed to be brainless, but at least for this one you have to know something about literally anything. I place this in my top three game shows to watch at least once a week along with Jeopardy and The Price is Right.

NCIS
I watched an episode of this show a few days ago and I really liked it. I'm not one for criminal investigation shows that go into the science of it all (like the CSI's); I just want to see justice done after 60 minutes with commercials. The goth lab tech character is kind of attractive so I don't see why we cannot have some eye candy with our shows.

Gilmore Girls
Although the show has taken a turn for the worst for the first half of this season I'm still holding out hope that they will pull it out in the second half. It seems like all the main characters have taken 180 degree turns and are direct opposites of themselves. I also kind of have a crush on the Lorelai character in the show. I hate Logan with the fury of a thousand stars for jacking around Rory's character so much. In fact if he was in my D&D game I would send a character with a Heavy Crossbow of Bane (human), Distance, Seeking after him. There's no escaping a crossbow with those enhancements unless you surround yourself with walls.

I think that's all I watch.

Just my 1/4 Pound.
