What are you going to do with all your 3.x stuff?

If you had a problem with the thread title (and I agree that it's more emotionally loaded than the OP probably intended), report the problem instead of hijacking the thread. You can do this with the button at the bottom left of every post.

Much of my 3e material is pretty good, and will be simple to plunder for 4e ideas. I'll give away or sell some material, but not a whole lot. I just bought 3 new bookcases.

In fact, I'm hoping WotC keeps its word and 4E is, in fact, a very different game from 3.xE. That way, I'll have a different ruleset for each flavor I'd like to see in my campaigns: 3.x for old-school dungeon crawling and heroic fantasy; 4E for Slayers-style fun combat with a lot of flashy powers.

That is, I don't want 4E to be an improvement over 3.x; I want it to be a different system wich could support different playstyles. That way, my 3.x stuff will be still useful

I'm keeping mine and so is my gaming group. We have discussed 4E and although we like some of the new ideas and concepts, we will wait for at least a year before we switch.

I dumped most of my 3,0e stuff as soon as I heard about 3.5. The only 3.0e book I still own is the Living Greyhawk Campaign book, which I love.

Do any of you actually think you'll be *able* to keep any of the 3.x stuff?

Credible anonymous sources of mine tell me that as soon as 4e hits the shelves, every 3.x book will spontaneously incinerate due to implanted chips in the books. WotC/Hasbro learned a lesson with so many so-called 'grognards' keeping their 1st/2nd edition books and still playing D&D with them.

Also, the SRDs that are on the web will self destruct, possibly taking out a few sites in the process, if not a fair chunk of the Internet. Best to just unplug your modems and not turn on your computer for a few days.

If something (probably third party) that comes out 'for 4e' or that is '4e-ish' looks just that damn good, I'll probably grab it to snaffle bits of awesomeness from. I'm not so much anti-4e as pro-d20, and my own bizarre mutant variety of that, what's more.

I hope WotC does fantastically well, and I'm pretty sure they will. Rock on, guys.

I got caught up in the moment like everyone else..plus most of the stuff that is crap (most of it) isn't crap until after you've read it...but one man's crap is another man's crapwipe I might just donate it to my FLGS like I did wth 2E. CASES OF CRAP. I'm embarassed at the amount of crap I bought..I must have been one of those people who got off on shopping (for crap obviously).

Had I known there was going to be a 3.5 so quickly, I also probably wouldn't have bought 3.0. (but I also had to purchase a certain amount because I was on the Livign Greyhawk Triad here and had to "review" a lot of "crap" for the campaign.

I certainly will be a hell of a lot pickier with my 4.0 purchases..that is if my group doesnt' rebel and simply refuse to have to purchase all that player crap again...

Wow, do you work for WotC? They're the only company I've heard call their previous products crap to try to sell their new stuff.

That's my opinion of 4e - expensive toiletry bound in hardback form. With very few exceptions, the names I've seen working on 4e are lower caliber than the 3e design team IMO.


I'll be keeping my 3.x "crap" and taking several alternate rules from 3rd party publishers to create a game that feels right for me.
