I have heard that SL novels were not that great of a read.

truthfully, they aren't.

but you can glean some bits and pieces for later use.

much like the forgettable realms crapola. ;)

Wood elves, forsaken elves, dark elves, mountain dwarves, charduni, forsaken dwarves, half-orcs, halflings, half-elves, and humans based on regional origins. If I missed any, I'm sure someone will pipe in with the stragglers.
Nope you got it right Trick. Which is another reason why I think CC Revised rocks. (Even thought they STILL haven't given us that long promised MM monsters fixed/set into the Scarred Lands.)

Taerlon,

They aren't BAD. Just a little iffy in terms of understanding at times. Overall they aren't any worse than say, most David Eddings novels.

Are they as bad as Pages of Pain (based in Planescape)? That book was the worst I have ever tried to read, and I love the PS setting.

Even if a book is awful I usually am able to get through it, to date that is the only book I could not finish.

edit: Well that one and book 10 of the Wheel of Time series.(but I have't given up on that one yet...)

I'd say they not works of art, but you can read through them without too much trouble. They are just...well semi-forgetable in parts.
