What Classes are Missing?

Well, a defender is meant to take onto themselves what they don't want their comrades to take. Meaning, the whole idea of making themselves the target of enemy fire. I could see a ranged defender marking people from a distance, but I would have to think more on how it all plays out. Going with the "I decide who you attack on a regular basis" seems more like a controller to me. hmmm...

Base it off the Bards Misdirected Mark at-will.
"You've got a -2 to all attacks that dont include him as a target." Then have some kind of ability that blocks damage or punishes the attacker for ignoring the mark.

I would really love to see a martial melee controller. Doing lots of damage to multiple enemies and trying to shift the environment to your advantage seems like the kind of schtick that isn't exclusive of the martial power source.

A martial controller is pretty much the only thing "missing" for me right now. On my blog I've talked about a savant idea that I think is cool, and I also think the ranger could be repurposed to a martial controller (something like the hunter class from Iron Heroes).

Divine and primal ranged strikers would be interesting I think.

I would actually like to see some duplicates such as another arcane defender, arcane striker, and primal leader.

I don't really feel a necessity for a ranged defender or a melee controller (though more options are always good). As far as I'm concerned the former exists in the form of Swordmages, Wizards, Druids, Invokers, Warlocks, and Rogues. The latter exists in the form of Fighters, Wardens, Swordmages, Thundarians, and Druids.

Perhaps another variant on the fighter? Heck, I say fighters deserve two classes.

The way I see it, anything with the martial power source is a variant on a fighter.

As for what is missing, a specialised arcane melee based striker could be interesting, as would further classes for the shadow source, Necromancer for shadow controller. Shadow leader (filling an ally with shadow energy to heal, possibly with a short term vulnerability to radiant) and defender (coaxing the shadows to cover allies and draw opponents to him) could also be interesting no idea what they would call them though.

Martial controller is more difficult, with the right build a fighter has a very controllerish aspect, knocking opponents prone, slowing them, immobilising them. Here is an example of what I am talking about, Delrak specialises in pinning soldiers and brutes, allowing the rest of the party to deal with the other monsters.

Arcane Melee Striker: This is the bladesinger or duskblade, relying on his weapon for melee and having some ranged spells and magical utility powers. A mix between swordmage and sorcerer. Possibly an arcane archer build as well. I have two ideas for how to stat it; either Dex + Int/Cha (choosing between sorcerer-like and wizard-like) or Int + Dex/Str (Wizard + rogue-like or fighter-like).

Mobile Controller: A martial artist, dance mystic, or dervish, similar to a Monk. Moves past enemies and allies, handing out buffs and debuffs and possibly taking some aggro as well. Needs to be in the thick of things. Leans towards either defender or leader depending on build. Dex + Con/Cha.

Martial Controller: Strong: Controls the battlefield trough strength. In many ways a reverse defender, this is a guy enemies do not want to get close to. Think Samson or Hercules from TV. If built as its own class, it should probably be Str + Cha/Con, but it seems a little narrow to be a separate class. I have made a build variant for this in the controller linked in my sig.

Martial Controller: Intelligent: Uses tricks, traps, or psyche to dominate enemies. A bit of a pulp superhero - The Shadow or the old Sandman (pre-Gaiman). Can also include some variants of the swashbuckler meme. See my sig for an attempt to build such a class that also has a strong martial controller build option. Int + Dex/Cha. The strong build would have to be Int + Str if it was included in this class.

Necromancer: A controller with heavy-duty summoning powers and debuffs. Allowed encounter-power summons. Perhaps Con + Int/Cha, depending on what the flavor of the shadow origin is.

Elementalist Controller: Wide-area battlefield control, causing mist, heat, hurricanes. Attacks would be like a toned-down sorcerer. Probably primal origin. Con, Wis, and Dex makes sense as stats.

Knight: A fighter rebuilt as a striker. Heavy armor, high damage, low mobility. Draws targets to him by challenges, something like a fighter mark, only single target and with more pull, less hold. Possibly a mounted build option which would still not be very mobile because mounts are all Large. Str + Cha/Wis/Dex (Dex for mounted powers).
