What monster killed your first PC?

The death of your first D&D PC was a once in a lifetime moment. For those who remember, what monster killed your first PC? (Or if your first PC never died, what monster caused your first PC death)

I'll kick it off with mine. My first PC, named Van Halen --I hear snicking :uhoh: -- was killed by a giant frog. His death was certainly abrupt and tragic. Then I rolled up a new char named Snake Walker.

Tell'em what you do Snake.

Snake: "Kill frogs" :D

My first character death happened in the Sunless Citadel module. I was playing an Elven ranger, and was friends with the party fighter (a dwarf, ironically). The dwarf climbed down the rope at the beginning of the module and was jumped by some dire rats. I was climbing down after him when our party sorceror (evil, we later found out) cut the rope, killing me (and the rogue that was climbing down after me). The sorceror then managed to convince the party cleric that it was for the greater good, and those two went off to form another party.

My first character, Judi, a half elven 1st edition thief was killed by a cause light wounds cast by an evil human cleric when I tried to spy on his temple. First game session.

This just shows how infrequently I get to be a PLAYER (usually the GM) ...

But I don't think I've ever had a character die. Hrm.

That's odd, actually, to realize. I've been gaming for quite a while, and generally campaigns end or games break up before my PCs ever bite the dust. Maybe I play a little too cautiously.

My first character, a half-elf sor/clr, managed to survive long enough to reach lvl 8 before he was slowly beaten to death by a drider clr. It was just those two, beating at each other with their maces. Both had high AC, so there was a lot of misses and the fight was long and dramatic. We both ran out of Cure spells before it was over. The drider won in the end, though. :(

My first character was an Elven Thief 3/Magic-User 2 from 1st Ed, who was killed by a lich. (Um, I guess we shouldn't have been there) It was a TPK, the only one I've ever been in. We were all resurected eventualy.

Brian Black. 1979. Playing a halfling pipe-smoking Magic-user. City State of the Invincible Overlord.

Not that it upset me at the time or anything...

A door.

Hey, quit laughing - it;s true. Morak the Grey, 1e monk, walked into a small room and the door disappeared behind him. He searched for secret doors, opened it, and it fell onto him doing enough damage to knock him unconscious.

The party walked on top of it while looking for him, doing enough damage to kill him.

I was sad.

My first PC to die met his end by a scorching ray cast by a dark naga. He was 3rd level. The DM and the CR system did not play nicely with each other.

Demiurge out.
