What PC races are in your 4E group!

What 4E races are played in your campaign?

I have 2 humans, 2 elves, and 1 tiefling. This shouldn't imply any dislike of the other races- it just happened to turn out that way. The rogue is a human because the miniature the player wanted to use was human, for example. No deeper reason.

Spread across 2 groups:

Elf
Eladrin
Halfling
Human
Dwarf

That, and I told them that I wouldn't allow Dragonborn if there's a Tiefling on the group, and vice versa (on my games Tiefling and Dragonborn are 2 sworn enemy races)

I'm glad though no one decided to play either.

Also, since no one picked Half-Elf, they probably won't exist in my games.

my wife's game has a:
Human wizard
1/2 Elf Paladin
Tiefling Cleric
Dragonborn Fighter
Eladrin Ranger

As of my vote, 89 votes, Human, Dragonborn, Eladrin in the lead

In the KotS group I am Dming we have:

Dragonborn Fighter sword & board
Eladrin Rogue
Human Cleric of Erathis
Tiefling Warlock Star Pact
Half-elf Warlord, who almost went Eladrin also

Old 3E Game:

Human (was Halfling, but the halfling died)
Dwarf
Elf
Human

New 4E Game (same order of player):

Eladrin
Dwarf
Dragonborn
Eladrin

As Dragonborn, it's interesting to see just HOW popular they are. I believe that what we're seeing here is the DMs and players have very different takes, typically, on what they like. DMs have to consider the setting, and how things fit in, and culture and so on, and so forth, and players just have to consider "What's cool?".
Or what we’re seeing here is also an edition divide. The new races were certainly an issue for some 4e sceptics. By definition, all the voters in this poll played at least some 4e but that may not be the case for the other poll (where db was the most hated race)

I didn’t vote here because I ‘m not sure my group’s short experience (2 sessions) with 4e really counts, but there was certainly no dragonborn (or short race) in sight. All human, pointy ears and a tiefling.

I think this is why DBs are doing great in reality, because, duh, they can BREATH FIRE (or other things), they look Draconic (and that's always been popular), and they have a simple, easily-identifiable stereotype of a personality ("Klingon" - Indeed three of my players separately and un-prompted identified them as such, and only one of those is a Star Trek nerd).

It's notable that Tieflings, which are more popular with DMs than DBs (last I checked), are less popular with players, in practice, presumably due to their lack of obvious "kewl powerz" and I suspect the particular style of horns/tail isn't helping them a whole lot, nor is their potentially emo "torn between good and evil" deal (it's so '90s).
Funny, I think it’s precisely because of the look and the boring as hell klingon vibe that many people hate dragonborn. The tiefling art is pretty bad too, but not as dorky as db, imo.

Who doesn't want to breath fire/cold/electricity??
Anyone not into furry or ridiculous races, maybe? :D

But yes, mechanically, db is good. It's not just the bad breath, it’s also the only core race with a strength bonus (the key ability for 4 classes) and charisma is also useful for many classes. No other race got so much love.

As for the flavour, dragonborn is the most erm… exotic race, so any group with a player who likes to play freaky monsters is going to have one.
Those who prefer thin humans with pointy ears have 3 races to pick from, depending on which class they want to play, those who like short races have two. So it's not a such a surprise that db is doing better. I'm not sure it would be the case if there was another core monster race or strong race to split the vote.
