What RPG's do you want to talk about?

Anything related to FATE grabs my attention (it's my system of choice these days).

Then give us a list as to why you like it so much... I have maybe 20 hours of playing or running FATE, so still very unsure and unclear about many things you probably fully get now.

My group has put D&D on the shelf for the time being and are playing in a Dresden Files game that's going great. The campaign is set in St. Louis (where the GM is originally from) and a few weeks ago we were investigating high winds at the St. Louis airport that turned out to be a tornado creature that was being assaulted in the Nevernever. Three days after that session this story came out: No deaths in St. Louis tornado called a miracle | KMOV.com St. Louis

I've requested that in an upcoming session we investigate the genie in Baltimore that's giving away free wishes but the GM hasn't complied yet.:erm:

As for the system itself, it has a lot of potential. Fate Points and getting compelled that Treebore mentioned are by far my favorite element of the game. Adversity and troubles are the marks of great stories and I like how it hardwires that into the game. I also like that part of character creation requires the players to write their characters into a backstory of another character. That's something that most of the games of any system I've played in could have benefitted from.

My biggest gripes are that the rule book is terribly presented and organized (it's a wall of text that doesn't flow well and has information on one topic spread in different sections) and while at heart the system is rules light some elements of it are very cumbersome and screech the game to a halt (such as casting magic).

When are you going to start a thread talking about something Treebore? I've found that's the best way to do it; just pick a system and people usually will come and chat.

Well, as an addendum to the thread I linked, I started running a Flashing Blades campaign, which is going well, and a Top Secret play-by-post campaign which died on the vine but which I hope to resurrect as a face-to-face game.

I'm also going to run a Boot Hill one-shot at a con this summer.

Now the reality is, I could probably start a thread on ENWorld every week about each of these three games - Flashing Blades, Top Secret, and Boot Hill - and not generate twenty replies between them. That's why I tend toward threads which discuss more general topics in roleplaying - I can still work in discussion of these games in the context of a larger theme.

For more specific feedback on these games, FB I usually discuss on the Yahoo group for the game; BH and TS are usually relegated to the 'old school' forums on sites like Dragonsfoot or Knights and Knaves.

Wow. You might be my hero. I was going to post about the rpg games I wish I played but haven't in many years, and have given up hope finding others to play.

I was going to list - Traveler, Flashing Blades, Boot Hill, Sidewinder Recoiled D20, and Pirates and Plunder, as well as possibly Behind Enemy Lines. Looking at your Flashing Blades campaign, is really inspiring. I'm just beginning to sort through it, but it looks really cool. That's my favorite time period/genre.

Anyway, very cool. I'm happy somebody else is at least getting to play Flashing Blades and Boot Hill.

I played a bit of S:R - it's one of my favorite d20 games.

I've never heard of Pirates and Plunder, but it sounds like it's in my wheelhouse.

I've never quite understood why cape-and-sword isn't the most popular roleplaying genre out there. Straight up, or sexed up with magic or '-punk,' it's got everything I hear gamers say over and over again they want.

If Gary Gygax played pike-and-shot minis instead of medieval wargames, the history of rpgs might've turned out very differently.

We're playing Flashing Blades next on Friday, 20 May and Saturday, 4 June in the Pasadena area, and Boot Hill will be in Anaheim on 30 July - you're more than welcome to join us.

That's very kind indeed. Pasadena isn't too far at all from me, and Anaheim might even be worth the trip for some boot hill. My schedule pretty much sucks this time of the year, but I will do everything I can to make it. I'll send you a message and try and find out what time you guys are having your sessions.

Thanks so much for the invite, even though chances are slim I'll do everything I can to make it.

Hmmm...

I'll have to check out Flashing Blades, definitely sounds like something I would like to own, if not play.

I tried out Sidewinder: Recoiled D20 and I had fun with it, like Boot Hill, but still had too many problems with both that I never stuck with them. Then, very, very much to my surprise I gave Aces and Eights a try and finally fell in love with a Western RPG. The two main reasons being the Shot Clock system, I just love it! Plus the fact that you can run the game on just 6 pages of rules. The rest of the rules bloat you can use or ignore as you wish.

When I think about it I still have a hard time believing I have come to love it so much.
