What SF RPGs do you play?

G'day

In the spirit of the thread "What Fantasy rpg's, other than D&D, do people enjoy?", I'd like to ask what science fiction RPGs we ENworldeers have played and would recommend.

I started out with classic Traveler, which had fatal flaws.

I have also used Hero System and modified versions of its various bits and whatsits, which worked exactly as well as Hero System ever does.

I have played both the West End and the d20 Star Wars Roleplaying Games, and the only problems i had were with the GMs.

But the overwhelming majority of my SF gaming has been supported by the redoubtable ForeSight.

What about you?

Regards,

Used to play Traveler when it first came out (long ago) and gave Space Opera a shot back in the day. Last Chicago Gameday Joe Cohen ran a great game of SG-1 which was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to d20 Future when it arrives, too.

I've been running d20 Star Wars since it made its debut, love the game!

I have another friend who runs a DragonStar game and I must admit that I am looking forward to taking a look at d20 Future when it does come out...

Well I have player Traveller, in its original incarnation (up through about High Guard), but was always confused by it -- you could die in character generation and despite Hyper Jumps, you still pulled out .45s. Kinda strange that way. Also since it was nearly 100% military (at least in its original format) it kinda left me cold.

I have played the FASA and LUG versions of Star Trek and would like to try my hand at the Decipher version -- I like the Trekiverse, with all its shortcomings.

I tried to play in Star Wars, but the WEG and WotC versions, but was never in for more than 1-2 sessions, so never really got a feel. Also, unlike Star Trek, I don't have a full "feel" for the universe -- I know about the movies, but avoided the books after the novelizations of the first three movies. Not enough to draw me in.

Oh, and I played a great variant of Space: 1889 where we used the HarnMaster rules instead of the base rules -- much better the play that way! I love the setting! :)

Spaceship Zero (Green Ronin) is my favorite for 1950's retro space adventure. I like Star Wars, but I'm looking forward to d20 Future.

I don't think Paranoia counts as Sci Fi. :D

Alternity > all. ;) I also play Robotech from time to time. It's like that on-again off-again high school flame, another six-month fling every time we can beat it out of the GM. ;)

I've played a few games of Alternity. It definitely had potential and I hope to see some of its StarDrive setting end up in D20 Future.

I've played a few games of Star Wars (West End as well as d20); they were not bad, but certainly requires a good GM. White Wolf's Aeon/Trinity game was really good, and I'll certainly be getting that game when it goes d20. I've tried HERO system, but got annoyed at the need to calculate the crazy point systems for things as minor as a character's equipment. I LOVE the core Spycraft game, but some of the source material gets wackier and dumber than even the worst of the James Bond villains. Also with AEG, Stargate has got to be my favorite Sci-Fi game out there (though the die-hard fans who are virtual encyclopedias of the show's history can kill a game if they insist on sticking with the show's exact events and mythology).
