Which edition of D&D are you currently interested in?

I'm enjoying 5e but if someone was interested in playing basic or 2e I'd be all for it. The basic rules cyclopedia is still one of my favourite books.

I want to run one if them next game. IDK if the players would do it though.

If I can give them a pretty book to look at like C&For ACKs it helps.

They'll okay Star Wars D6 though as I ran a one shot of that and they enjoyed it.

I chose 5e and 2e AD&D. I have been tempted to try running 2nd edition. I don't even know if I'd get any interest for people to play. Unfortunately, it would need to be over the internet, and finding something compatible with 2e AD&D is quite difficult. Bad enough with 5e and finding it tough to be able to do all the homebrewing I do. Would be dang near impossible for 2e. If only I could get all my players in a single place... Would be so much easier.

So yeah, I'd love to attempt some AD&D 2e again. Get some actual play in on that (bought my books in 1998, and 3e came out 1.5 years later). I also wouldn't mind maybe a 3e game (not 3.5, but 3e).

I went back to playing 2nd edition back in 2012 (prior to that, I was playing 3.5 and PF). Back in the day, I originally played 2nd edition from its start in 1989 until its end in 2000.

I never played 4th edition, and I have not played 5th edition (and honestly, I really don't have any desire to).

I'm open for playing in other editions, but I wouldn't bother DMing and older edition. I quite like 5e and have little time to game. When I do run other systems, they tend to be in other genres or very different rule sets. For example, I wouldn't bother buying and running other fantasy system, though Numenera and Strange may be an exception. I like the Cypher system and the flavor of the game and setting are different enough to make me want to run a mini campaign.

As for playing in another system, I would be interested in one-shots or mini campaigns with a DM that was patient enough to not expect me to be an expert in the rules. But even then, I find myself at conventions gravitating to OSR games like DCC, rather than the actual older editions.

I'm designing my own retrowhatever, with the high premise of reimplementing AD&D's Player's Option series in BECMI. I'm looking at a lot of 3.5 and Pathfinder 3pp for inspiration-- Tipsy Tabby Publishing's Overhauling Multiclassing and Rogue Genius Games' Genius Guide to the Talented $CLASS series especially.

So I'll run Rules Cyclopedia or AD&D 2e Player's Option pretty happily... though 3.PF is still too much work... and I'll play any of the three under a flexible and generous DM.

I have a friend who only wants to run D&D 3.5 "Core Only"... she invites me to play, I express my enthusiasm, and then she says "Core Only". She doesn't understand why I immediately back out, and I don't understand why she doesn't say "Core Only" up front, and neither of us will ever learn.
