I love the new series. Thing is, I was born in '86, so I'm too young to have seen the originals when they were first airing. I did get to watch most of them a couple years back and loved them. But the new BSG is just...well, great. I'm not really sure how to describe why I like it more than the other series (I'm ignoring the existance of 1980), but I just find that there is more a sense of tension to everything. It really feels like they've lost their home.

Of course, I've resisted the urge to jump ahead and download the other episodes as they've aired in the UK, so maybe this changes. :)

I have a fond spot in my heart for the original. I remember almost getting into fistfights in grade school over which was better: Star Trek, Star Wars or BG. (I went to Catholic school -- we had a 6'2" nun 'Sister Angelica' who we called Battlestar Angelica).

But I watched a large chunk of the marathon that SciFi just ran, and dear god, were some of them bad. Bad in a 'I can't believe I ever watched this' bad. It's not that they are dated, which doesn't bother me (although go watch old episodes of Buck Rogers with Gil Gerard and know why I've largely blocked the '70s from my memories). But the plots are haphazard, with no attempt at continuity, plausibility, or anything. The acting is extremely uneven. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Boomer is probably the best acted and most believable character.

The new series seems headed in a better direction, and I am already looking forward to watching it each week.

The modern incarnation, most definitely.

I don't have any memories of the original, and when I saw bits and pieces of the marathon SciFi ran Monday last week, I CRINGED. Oh, that was bad. I tried to watch, really, but it was just too painful.

The modern one, though, feels real...like these are the last remnants of humanity who just got the stuffing beat out of them and are fleeing for their lives. The crew of the Galactica seem like they're actually in a military.

I'll have to go with the present one for the atmosphere as well. The acting also continues to amaze me. Even Mr Hatch's performance is highly impressive, though he's had a lot of practice in the intervening years, I assume.

While I grew up on the old series, the new one is far better to this point. Better acting, mostly better special effects, and the nice "cylon as humans" plot.
I do have fond memories of the original, I even bought the pilot episode on DVD when I first bought a DVD 7 years ago. If only I had kept those Battlestar Galactica puzzles I used to have.

Well, guess I'll be the first to step up for the original.

I like the old Cylons better. They were much more menacing (both their ships and the actual Centurions).

I actually like the old ship models better as well. They look more functional and less pretty.

Olmos is good, but I'll have to go with Lorne Green as the better Adama.

Richard Hatch is much better than the new Apollo (er, I mean Lee). He brought a passion and vigorousness to the role that made him one of my favorite characters.

Old and new Starbucks I like about equally, but for different reasons.

I always did find it odd that all three of Adama's children ended up on the same ship. I know our own navy has "brother duty" where you can request to serve with siblings, but if I'm not mistaken they try not to do that during time of war.

Oh, and Galactica 1980...shudder...that was just bad.

The original for me, yes it was campy but times were different. I like Lorne Green and Starbuck, I liked the old Cylons. But I will say the new Boomer is hot! ;)
